A BRIEF
INTRODUCTION
WHO IS PARAMA GHOSH ?
■ Born into a family of four generations of
lawyers, destined to be one, this lady from a
booming career of a lawyer turned into an
entrepreneur to follow her passion her name
is Parama Ghosh from Kolkata who is an
inspiration to many of us.
■ Her love for handlooms and hand-made art
led her to take the plunge into the world of
designing and creating.
■ From a young age she had been admitted to
an art school before even joining a
kindergarten.
■ She was always fascinated by the field of
creativity and artistry.
■ As she herself says and also believes ‘when
life gives you lemons, sell them, make a
business create an empire’. THE LAWYER AND THE DESIGNER
HOW DID PARAMA COME INTO
EXISTENCE ?
■ In 2015 Parama Ghosh started her
brainchild, her own label known as
Parama in which she creates and sells
handloom, handcrafted sarees and hand
embroidery blouses.
■ In her start up venture, Parama infuses
the spirit Parama would ideally see
herself embody.
■ She considers Parama an extension of her
personality, meaning supreme or
adoringly referred to as happiness.
■ Parama firmly supports the thought that
every garment tells a story and what she
makes is a story that the wearer should
be able to connect to and find the story
when they look at the product.
THE JOURNEY
■ She began the journey with few artisans,
now she has 100 women working for her,
where she designs and runs a small unit
from Bolpur, West Bengal. She has a
factory outlet on the outskirts of Kolkata.
■ She also ensures all her workers have
good working conditions, are not
overworked as she believes “good things
take time”.
■ Most of her designs are based on applique
work which makes use of the waste fabric
or materials.
■ The label works closely with fabrics like
Murshidabad Silk, Dhonekali and Phulia ONE OF HER FIRST
and excels in art forms like Batik and CREATIONS
Kantha, two age-old and rich crafts of the
nation.
WHY PARAMA IS BEING

■ Parama whispers love notes to the
saris, as there are a glow and
character to each sari.
■ The saris are treated as living,
breathing entity rather than a piece
of fabric.
■ She ensures that the waste that is
generated in the process of creating
is effectively utilized in other forms
and be recycled for further use.
■ “We adore how words, pictures, and
design elements jostle to find a
unique and cherished space in
these dreamy drapes embellished
with Batik and Kantha work inspired
from the famous Bengal
Alpona motif.”

• She firmly believes that if you have something
on your mind it will manifest.
• Also she says that fear and honesty cannot be
together, if one is honest there is no place for
fear there.
• One of the most important aspect of
sustainability is to take care of the workers or
artisans because without their support it will
be difficult to run any business.
• Sustainability doesn’t have to always be in a
traditional form it can be by reusing and not
overbuying as Parama says she wants to do
with her products because she has created
something which can be used for a long time.
