• Is the transmission of ideas


and emotions between or
among persons with the
use of verbal and non
verbal cues.
THE FIVE
ELEMENTS OF
COMMUNICATION
PARTICIPANTS
• Are the communicators who
may function as both senders
and the receivers. Sender
transmit the information to the
receiver and the receiver
decodes the message in order
to formulate a response.
CONTEXT
• Refers to the interrelated
conditions affecting the
message. These include
physical, social,
psychological and cultural
factors.
A. Physical Context
•refers to the place,
time, environment
and distance among
communicators.
B. Social Context
•Refers to the
relationship of the
communicators
C. Psychological Context

•Refers to their
moods and feelings.
D. Cultural Context
•Includes beliefs and
norms of the
participants
CHANNEL
• The channel is the means
of delivering the message.
These include face to face
conversation, letters,
phone calls, social media,
and email or others.
FEEDBACK
• Is the response of the receiver.
This helps the sender of the
message determine whether the
message was understood by the
receiver. If the participants of the
communication continue on giving
feedback, the flow of the
communication continue.

EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATION
• Professor Brrom, Cutlip and
Center (2012) list the 7 C’s
of Effective
Communication. This list is
widely used today,
especially in public
relations and advertising.

Completeness
 The communication must be
complete
 It should convey all facts
required by the audience.
 The sender must take into
consideration the receiver’s
mind set
Features:
 No crucial information is
missing
 Gives additional information
 Leaves no questions
unanswered
Conciseness
 It means wordiness - communicating
what you want to convey in least
possible words.
Features:
 Highlights the main message
 Avoids using excessive and needless
words.
 Provides short and essential message
in limited word.
 Message becomes appealing and
comprehensible to the audience.
 Message is non-repetitive in nature.
Consideration
 Implies “stepping into the shoes of
others”.
 Take note of audience’s view points, background,
mind-set, education level, etc.
 Envisage your audience, their requirements,
emotions and problems.
 Do not hurt self-respect and emotions of
audience .
 Modify your words to suit the audience’s needs
Features :
 Emphasize on “you” approach. Show
optimism towards your audience.
 Empathize and exhibit interest in
audience to stimulate a positive reaction
Concreteness
 Be particular and clear rather
than fuzzy and general.
 It strengthens the confidence.
 Concrete messages are not
misinterpreted.
Features:
 It is supported with specific
facts and figures.
 Make use of words that are
clear and that build the
reputation.
Clarity
Clarity emphasise a
specific message or goal
at a time, rather than
trying to achieve too
much at once.
Features:
 It makes understanding
easier.
 Clarity of thoughts and
ideas enhances the
meaning.
Courtesy
 Shows sender’s expression and
respect to the receiver.
 The sender of the message
should be sincerely polite,
judicious, reflective and
enthusiastic.
Features:
 Taking into consideration both
viewpoints and feelings of the
receiver.
 Courteous message is positive
and focused at the audience.
 Use terms showing respect for
the receiver of message.
It is not at all biased.
Correctness
Implies there are no
grammatical errors in
communication.
Features:
 The message is exact,
correct and well-timed.
 Correct communication,
boosts the confidence level.
 Correct message has impact
on the audience/readers.
 Precision and accurateness
of facts and figures given
importance
 Use appropriate and correct

• Come up with a model of
communication. Make a drawing
that shows your model of
communication. Include
explanation/description of the
components/elements of your
model. Mention any special feature
or characteristics of your model.
