 Adverb of time tells you the time of occurrence

of an incident.
 It tells when the things happen.
 Adverb of time is just what you expect it to be a
word that describes when, for how long, how
often an incident does happen.
1.This time the clause of adverb defines the
relationship between verbs.
( previously, earlier, before, soon, recently)

Examples:
a. Rohan was previously elected as vice
captain before becoming a captain.
b. Dean Dayal Nagar was formerly named
as Mughalsari

c. To complete his assignment, he reached


school earlier than others.

d. I stayed in Agra; before leaving for


Delphi.
2. Adverb of time can be directional.
( like up, down, around, away, south )

Examples:
a. I went up the stairs
b. Monies world revolves around his
books.
c. The car speed away after honking.
d. Rohit went to south on his
expedition.
3. Adverb of time can refer to the distance.
( nearby, far away, miles apart )

Examples:
a. The hotel I was looking for was nearby.
b. My school is far away from my house.
c. They are staying miles apart from one
another.
d. Exams are closer to what I thought.
4. Adverb of time may indicate the relative
position between two objects.
( below, between, above, behind )

Examples:
a. Ray’s class is below Sujeet’s.
b. Mae lies midway between Bangalore and
Lucknow.
c. My office is above Bank of India.
d. Sandeep was standing behind his class
teacher.
Many adverbs of time also indicate movement in a
particular direction and the end with “ward”.

Examples:
a. Rolly moved forward and greeted his
teacher.
b. Suddenly the train started moving
backwards.
c. The phone started moving towards the
hanger.
d. The ship sailed southwards.
 Adverb of place talks about the location where
the action of the verb is being carried out.
 Normally placed after a sentences object or main
verb.
 Can be directional
 Can refer to distances
 Also indicate movements in a particular direction
and the end in the letter “ward”
1. Adverb of place ending WHERE
adverbs of place that end in – where express
the idea of location without specifying a
specific location or direction.
Examples:
a. I have nowhere to go
b. I would like to go somewhere cold for
my vacation.
c. I keep running in to Mariah everywhere!
d. Is there anywhere I can find a perfect
plate spaghetti around here?
2. Adverbs of place ending-WARDS
adverb of place that end in – wards
express movement in a particular
direction.

Examples:
a. The ship sailed northwards.
b. Cats don’t usually walk backwards.
c. We will keep walking homewards until
we arrive.
d. The balloon drifted upwards.
3. Adverbs of place expressing both
MOVEMENTS & LOCATION some adverbs of
place express both movements and
location at the same time.
Examples:
a. The wind pushed us sideways.
b. He lived and worked abroad.
c. The child was playing outdoors.
d. Water always flows downhill.
