3 RELATION
 Let U(universal set)=[African Trees]
 With subset = [Texture of Wood]
 We can have the 3 main textures- coarse, fine ,and medium
represented in a Venn diagram.
 If coarse texture =A and fine texture=B, then it implies
 [A B] represents the wood that falls into the category
(medium texture)

Wood can be mapped. In making the project work, we had to map the wood to the
properties of the wood. We show that with the illustration below:

7
In the course of the project planning, we were able
to discover Wood and its Mathematical Relations
Our ‘ProjectWood’ shows symmetricity, reflexivity
and even transitivity.
Thus, an equivalence relation can be gotten from
these properties.

8
 REFLEXIVE PROPERTIES
 Every element in the universal set of African Trees exhibits this property. Each
one being related to itself.
 We can easily illustrate this, the Afrormosia for example, used in boat-building,
is the same used in veneer production. Thus, it relates back to itself.

9
 SYMMETRIC PROPERTIES
 It shows this property in many areas
 For example, a search for ‘orange-yellow’ wood in our website
returns result ‘Badi’, a search for ‘monnin hardness of 5.8’ returns
the wood White Wenge. If the search is done vice-versa, we get the
same result.
 This result only comes out because ‘orange-yellow’ colour is
related to Badi and Badi wood is inturn related to the ‘orange-
yellow’ colour.
 Thus, symmetrical properties are proven. 10
 Transitive Properties
 Transitivity, if for all elements in a set X; x, y, z being an
element of X and x relates to y just as y relates to z, x
relates to z.
 Lets Illustrate:
 You need a decorative wood with a ‘red-brown’ colour (y)
for a project, you have the amazing option of using either:
 Tiama wood (x) or Sipo wood (z)!
11
We have been able to prove its symmetric,
reflexive and transitive properties.
This means we have also satisfied another
relation property.
EQUIVALENCE!
