Lyric Poetry

 May be in the form of poems, sonnets, or


odes. It expresses the personal (often
emotional) feelings and thoughts of the
poet. The most important quality of it is
the ability to express feelings, state of
mind, and perceptions of the poet. It
does not tell stories which show actions of
characters.

Writer’s Techniques
 Stanza forms - a stanza form is a unit of poetry consisting
of two or more lines arranged in a pattern according to
rhyme and meter or rhythm.
 Rhyme - a poem that rhymes has in its structure the last
words of the line matching each other in some form .
 Rhythm is a systematic arrangement of stressed and
unstressed syllables in poetry. the basic unit of meter is
the foot which usually consists of 1 stressed syllable and
one or unstressed syllables.
Like paragraphs in prose, stanzas organize ideas into units.
however, unlike the paragraphs of prose stanzas in a poem
are generally of a fixed length and share the same pattern
of rhyme and rhythm .
 In your notebook list the words that rhyme

Figurative Languages

 A simile is a figure of speech that uses the words


like or as in order to compare one thing with
another. Example: My love is like a pure and
white sampaguita.
 A metaphor is a figure of speech which also
compares two things but in an implicit manner;
that is, one thing replacing another. My love is a
pure and white sampaguita .

Writers’ Technique
 The theme is the most important idea which is the central idea of
a poem.
A poet express ideas which may be a description of an object or a
person. Poet’s may also want to convey a story or an experience,
which they themselves experienced, or they could have observed
from the experience of another person.
 The tone of the poem is the level and kind of emotions expressed
which may be anger, excitement, or sadness.
 The mood is seen as the bigger picture of the poet's feelings
which is produced as the poet chooses the words to be included
in the poem. These are the language choices of the poet.
A poet may produce a desolated which may be associated with
death or serious illness not only through his use of words but also to
the punctuation marks in his or her poem.

On July 9, 1861, a very unfortunate and tragic accident led
to the death of Longfellow's wife. Fanny, his wife, was with
her daughters aged five and seven, in the library. Fanny
was sealing envelopes by melting wax and she was doing
that, a lighted match accidentally dropped onto Fanny’s
dress which had cuttings of her children's hair. Although
