CHAPTER II - MARKETING ASPECT
• INTRODUCTION
• In recent years, electricity prices have skyrocketed and will continue to increase in the
future. What better way to save money than to use solar energy? Solar power has become
prevalent in modern power design as a form of renewable energy. In addition to financial
benefits, the use of renewable energy, in particular, solar energy will benefit our
environment. Nowadays, the majority of the world depends on electricity supply generated
from fossil fuels. These means of electrical production have raised growing environmental
concerns over the climate change risks. It is time to make a change and Go Green!
• In an era where self-sufficiency and the need to stay connected, through technology, is
mandatory. The group decided to create the “La Solaris Umbra”. The group believes that the
originality and the functionality of this umbrella will revolutionize the patio/beach umbrella
market. Being outdoors is becoming more popular to people as they retreat from their
homes and into nature. The group’s vision was to create a low cost battery and solar
powered umbrella that meets the needs of these customers.
• The goal of this study is to develop a portable solar powered umbrella that has a multitude
of features that include USB ports, portable, easy to carry and a solar powered system for
optimal power generation. This product will be powered entirely on solar energy.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
• La Solaris Co.’s vision was to create a low cost battery and solar powered umbrella
that meets the needs of these customers. The main function of a patio/beach
umbrella is sun protection. To accomplish this task, La Solaris Co. used solar panel
arrays placed on top of the umbrella that are used in conjunction with a
rechargeable battery power bank.
• These solar panel arrays receive maximum sunlight as the top of the umbrella
follows the sun. This increases the power capability of the solar panels.
Maximizing shade was the number one driving force in this project, but utility was
also important. To increase the user’s ability to remain outdoors for extended
periods without the need to chase down a cell phone charger to continue
important conversations.
• Sundra contains a USB port so the user can enjoy a day at the beach or when they
are commuting and be able to charge their phones when the phone’s battery is
running low. La Solaris Co. felt that the portable solar powered umbrella, with its
low cost and utility, would be a hit in the consumer marketplace. The umbrella
maintained its light weight and weather proofing specifications to ensure the users
can enjoy the product and not have to worry about life expectancy.

Powered Umbrella since it is new to the world of businesses. Moreover,
being a single product company will only focus on one specific group of
consumers.
• Limited types of materials available
• The material to be used for the product needs to be durable yet lightweight
at the same time, so that it will be portable and easy to use for the
customer. Nylon and polyester are the only ideal material to be used.
• Requires extra care when handled
• Even though nylon is known for being durable, long-lasting material, it will
still be prone to cracking when dropped especially when filled with water.
Opportunities
