Boyle’s

Law
Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the
students should be able to state Boyle’s
law, solve problems involving Boyle’s
law, and relate Boyle’s law
applications to everyday leaving.
Learning Target: I can state Boyle’s law.
Learning Target: I can state Boyle’s law.
Direction: Activity ……
Place 1 marshmallow in a syringe, then push the
plunger until it touches the marshmallow.
Return the marshmallow to their original position,
pull the plunger to the top of the syringe , cover
the tip and push the plunger down.
Cover the tip of the syringe with you finger. Pull
the plunger up and watch as the marshmallow
expands.
Learning Target: I can relate the Boyle’s law
application to every day living.
Guide Questions
1. What happened to the marshmallows?

2. What is being decreased inside the

syringe?

3. What quantity is being increased?

Learning Target: I can relate the Boyle’s law

application to every day living.
HOTS QUESTIONS
1. How the pressure affect the volume
of the marshmallow?

2. What is the relationship of pressure

and volume in the Boyle’s law?
Explain.

Learning Target: I can relate the Boyle’s law

application to every day living.
Boyle’s Law
• Boyle’s Law is one of the laws in physics that
concern the behaviour of gases
• When a gas is under pressure it takes up less
space:
• The higher the pressure, the smaller the volume
• Boyles Law tells us about the relationship between
the volume of a gas and its pressure at a constant
temperature

Learning Target: I can state Boyle’s law.

How can we write Boyle’s Law as a
formula?
• This is more usually
• Pressure is inversely written as:
proportional to the
volume and can be • Pressure = constant
written as: volume
• Pressure a 1/volume
• P=K/V • PV=k
• P1V1=P2V2

Learning Target: I can solve problems in Boyle’s law

Let’s Try these!
Problem # 1
A tire with the volume
of 12.17 L reads 4.1 atm
on the tire gauge.
What is the new tire
pressure if you compress the tire and its
new volume is 11.6 L?
4.30 atm
Learning Target: I can solve problems in Boyle’s law
Problem # 2:
If you have 5.0 L of
a gas at 825mmHg
and the pressure is
changed to 650mmHg,
what is the new volume of the gas?
6.35 L
Learning Target: I can solve problems in Boyle’s law
Problem 3:
A gas occupies a volume of 400 mL
at a pressure of 1.00 atm. What is the
final volume that the gas will occupy
if the pressure increases to 1.50 atm,
assuming that the temperature
remains constant?

266.67 mL
Learning Target: I can solve problems in Boyle’s law
Pressure and volume are the
fundamental quantities involved
in the Boyle’s law. In relation to
that, in life, sometimes we are
pressure to the task that we
need to accomplish whether it’s
about the school task, or in any
other aspects of life.

Learning Target: I can relate the Boyle’s law

application to every day living.
How will you handle the
situation even if you are
pressured?

Learning Target: I can relate the Boyle’s law

application to every day living.
Studying the Boyle’s
law help us to
understand the use of
syringe in the hospital
and even in the clinic.
