Introduction

• Without right personal qualities, skills are meaningless.

• In one or the other way leadership and management related

to one another.

• It is important to avoid overly theoretical analysis and focus

on day-to-day implications.

• Instead of thinking in terms of management or leadership, it is

easy to consider the position of authority in business.
The two things are most important

• Engage people to ensure their commitment, competence and

motivation.

• Harness that engagement by focusing on process to ensure

productivity, efficiency and quality, in order to achieve the
performance and results required.
Self awareness and leadership success

• It not always get as much attention as some other leadership

traits, but it perhaps the most valuable in terms of raising
performance.

• In terms of self awareness, one can learn a thing or two about

self analysis and humility.

• When it comes to effective management, this raise your own

leadership effectiveness, it is important to recognize strength
& weakness and continuously work hard to build your
capacity to lead.
Personal Leadership effectiveness

• There are many formal models and theories which seek to

identify the key traits and behaviors that help leaders to
succeed.

• It’s vital to understand how traits and skills relate to one

another.

• Certain skills are vital for leaders, without these it is

impossible for leaders to make the skills stick.
Some of the traits & behaviors of leadership

• Enthusiasm & Energy

• Self motivation & Openness

• Intelligent & future oriented

• Open to change & learn from mistakes

• Self control & ethical etc.,

Leadership & Relationship

• One of the most important activities undertaken by leader is

relationship building.

• A tool to encourage to think about this matter is something

called leader-member exchange theory.

• It contains three phases

Role Taking: When new employee joins team, you take some
time to assess their skills, abilities and motivation levels etc.,

Role Making: As they work as part of the team, you begin to

form judgments about them and group them in two
categories 1.Your In-Group, 2.Your Out-Group

Routinisation: Once you make a decision about an employee, it is

very hard to change that view and the relationship develops
along a fairly predictable path after that.
Conclusion

• Through this one should now reflect upon how to develop

personal traits for raising the effectiveness as a leader.

• There is no pretence that changing your personal qualities is

an easy endeavor, but it is possible with the desire to do so.

• There is a myth that you ‘are who you are’ at this stage in life
and change is impossible at that stage, mindset is antithesis of
how an effective leader should think.

• Finally everything is possible but not easy.
