MEANING OF TEMPERATURE

Temperature is the degree of sensible Heat or Cold, which are expressed in term of a
specific scales
Temperature is how hot or cold something is. Our bodies can feel the difference between
something which is hot and something which is cold. To measure temperature
more accurately, a thermometer can be used.
TEMPERATURE SCALES

Several scales and units exist for measuring temperature, the most commonly used scales
are:-
 Celsius {oC}
 Fahrenheit {oF}
 Kelvin {K}
CELSIUS SCALE {OC}

• The Celsius scale is used for common measurement in most of the world
• The symbol used to for measuring Celsius is
FAHRENHEIT SCALE {OF}

• The united states commonly uses the Fahrenheit scale, on which the water freezes at
32oF and boils at 212oF
• The symbol used for measuring Fahrenheit is
KELVIN SCALE {K}

• Many scientific measurements uses the kelvin temperature scale

• The symbol used to for measuring Kelvin is
TEMPERATURE SCALES

• Celsius
• water freezes at 0o
• water boils at 100o

• Fahrenheit
• water freezes at 32o
• water boils at 212o

• Kelvin
• water freezes at 273 K
• water boils at 373 K
CONVERSIONS TO TEMPERATURE

• oF = (1.8 x oC ) + 32

• oC = 0 . 5 6 ( oF - 3 2 )

• K = oC + 273
