Pitfalls:
• Long “laundry” list of criteria
• Two or more candidates with nearly identical scores
• Putting too much trust in the tool
• Self serving, ie, make the matrix support your bias
• The Tool becomes the end not the means

Best Practices:
• Use only critical/ important criteria(some criteria like safety can be Go/No Go)
• 9,3,1 or Pugh +- scoring; make sure you differentiate
• Reevaluate scores, weightings and potential design improvements
• Keep it simple; do what is needed for the decision but no more
