SAFEGUARDING THE BATTERY STORAGE AGAINST TEMPERATURE DAMAGE Introduction There has been substantial development in the technology to cater to the growing needs to work at lower dimensional level to provide safeguards against failures in the battery operation as a consequence of undesired actions (Installing Battery in the opposite direction) overall. Current approaches used to solve this problem are based on methods that employ Fuses , Diodes etc. ELECTRICAL RELAYS
A relay is a switching device as it works to isolate or change the
state of an electric circuit from one state to another. Different Types of relays. Classification or the types of relays depend on the function for which they are used. A protective relay is continuously monitor these parameters like voltage, current, and power in a heavy power system comprising of motors, generators, transmission lines. Our idea is to introduce a relay system that is sensitive to temperature calculations and can be introduced at a miniature level to fit inside a battery with reasonable cost without interfering in the normal functioning of the battery. THE BASIC VISUAL • The 3D model designed for the concept can be accessed from the link given here : http://bit.ly/EMRelay.
• The model depicts is a basic
representation of the idea. The model also has a hidden mechanical actuator between the rod and the metal anode plate. EXPLANATION The battery contains all the components such as a metal plate anode, cathode and carbon rod that a normal assembly does. However, it also contains a micro-embedded chip that acts as smart sensor to detect thermal fluctuation and trigger the mechanical actuator. Overall the above setup acts as a relay which sense abnormal temperature rise condition (80-110 deg. C positive temperature rise gradient) and acts to provide safeguard. The embedded system would be formed using transistor-silicon MEMS (Micro electro-mechanical system). EXPLANATION The embedded system would be formed using transistor-silicon MEMS (Micro electro-mechanical system). A single thermocouple sensor and OP amplifier which sense temperature difference from 80 degree Celsius (positive gradient).
Temperature difference Circuit Transistor-silicon thermistor Circuit
EXPLANATION The setup acts in such a way that the thermistor realizes a temperature increase after a temp difference has been detected by the op-amp circuit mentioned. The thermistor then activated a mechanical slide or inflating that disconnects the power supply from the metal place to the outer circuit to provide safeguard. The setup would be a low consumption power device with low cost on mass manufacturing. This would enable it to be a part of the battery assembly in a profitable fashion. Thank You!
