An industry is a group of manufacturer or
businesses that produces a particular kind of
goods or services.
 Industry comes from the Latin word
industria , which means “diligence , hard
work”
 It is a business activity, which is related to
the raising, producing, processing or
manufacturing of products.
There is generally three types of industries :

 Primary industry : It involves in getting raw


material e.g. mining, farming, fishing.

 Secondary industry : It involves manufacturing


e.g. making cars and steel.

 Tertiary industry : It provides services e.g.


teaching and nursing
Industries plays an important role in the economic
development of any nation, without industries,
economic development is impossible.

Industrial management is the organizational process that
includes:
• Strategic planning
• Setting objectives
• Managing resources
• Deploying the human and financial assets needed to
achieve objectives and measuring results.
Management is the planning process that includes:
• Direction
• Planning
• Adjustments
• Control and cooperation

Management functions are not limited to managers and


supervisors.

Every member of an organization has some management and


reporting functions as part of their job.
2. SCOPE OF INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT

The scope of industrial management relations includes all


aspects of relationships such as bringing cordial and healthy
labour management relations.
• By safeguarding the interest of workers
• By fixing reasonable wages
• By providing good working conditions
• By providing other social security measures
• By maintaining healthy trade unions
• By collective bargaining

Through all these topics we end up at a conclusion that
management concept is a very vague topic. You can’t
keep it or write it in a book. Concept of management is
not only applicable in industry and social science but in so
many other field’s too.
Without management we can’t proceed towards success.
Even management is required individually, let alone be
social science or industry. Management concept is
applicable in these two fields absolutely.
