My Current Financial Skills

• Data analysis skills- in my internship program I have managed to

identify, organize, analyze different excel data file that contained
financial information of the company. For instance , the data entries for
payable and account receivables
• Communications skills- I have managed to have managed to address
my teammates in side the boardroom meeting with the top executive.
• Planning skills – I have been involved in the budget planning and task
planning in the organization. Also, I have assisted the finance manager
in organizing duties to the junior staff. As an intern it was a privilege that
have given me an edge in my career.
• Commercial awareness – a accountant should have ability to
understand commercial events, trends and existing market. In that
account, I read business newspaper on the daily basis to update myself
on the current commercial issues arising.
My Current Financial Skills

• Resilient-accountant should have abilities to come back from

depression and other stress that may arise from the day to day job.
In one of the occasion , I loss my relative while still on duties. Several
weeks later I managed to overcome the situation and continued
working with more vigor.
• Computer skills –I posses abilities to use Microsoft excel, Power Point,
access, outlook among other skills.
• Professionalism-as a financial analysts I portray high level of
professionalism in all my undertaking as an accountant.

 Leadership- the current job market requires the candidates who can
offer leadership skills
 Investigating- I have been able to investigate a financial problem .
These I managed to analyze through literature review from different
individuals.
 Flexibility-I have ability to confirm with any situation that may arise.
For instance, during one of my internship program, the organization
transferred me from payable department to the receivable

The future skills that I need

 Financial reporting- in future I need skills to be able to report

financial information such as income statement, statement of
change in equity and financial position in true and fair manner.
 Financial regulations interpretations- In future I need to be able to
understand the financial regulation such as international financial
standards (IFRS)and international accounting standards ( IASB),
 Interpersonal relationship- in the recent times accounting
professional have become dynamic . In that case, I will need the
skills that will help me to communicate with the clients effectively.
The future skills that I need

 Management of company cash flow- in future I will need to develop

in cash flow manage skills that will help me to manage the cash flow
in the respective companies that I will work .
 Management of accounting principle skills- in future I will need the
know how of managing and developing skills that can help me in
the applications of accounting principals.
 Enterprise management information system skills- in future I will need
technical know how of using information system such as
QuickBooks to manage the company’s accounts and information.
The gap of skills

 Comparing the current skills and the future skills that I need to have ,
I have a gap in skills that I need to develop before I am employed.
For instance , I will need to develop skills such as:
 Competence
 Skills in information systems in business
 Accounting principle and regulations skills
 Communication and information management skills
 Problem solving techniques
 Management of financial statements such as income statement,
balance sheet and change in equity statement.
 Budgeting skills.

 I have done my homework on the strength and weakness in term of

the skills I believed I possessed. I consulted the teachers, friends,
parents and relatives. From the feedback , I have gathered there
are some skills that I don’t posses at all such ability to apply IFSR
regulations . However, I have strength in the skills such as the
accounting principle , data analysis and use of computer packages
especially excel and word.
Future development

 After the review of my career ,I have identified several areas that I

will develop in my professional development plan. In that account, I
have identified key area such as financial reporting , business
management information system.
