NTPC OVERVIEW

• NTPC is India's largest energy conglomerate with roots planted way back
in 1975
• The total installed capacity of the company is 47,178 MW (including JVs)
• Contributing 24% of Country's entire power generation.
• NTPC became a Maharatna company in May 2010, one of the only four
companies to be awarded this status.
• NTPC was ranked 400th in the ‘2016, Forbes Global 2000’ ranking of the
World’s biggest companies.

WHY COAL AS A FUEL ?

• Coal can provide usable energy at a cost of between

12 to 15 %  compared to oil and natural gas,and coal
prices are relatively stable.
• Coal is inherently higher polluting and carbon
intensive than other energy alternatives.However
coal is so inexpensive that one can spend quite a bit
on pollution control,and still maintain coal's
competitive position.
