INTRODUCTION
• McDonalds, in full McDonalds corporation, American fast-food chain
that is one of the largest in the world, known for its hamburgers. Its
headquarters are in Oak Brook, Illinois.
• The first McDonalds restaurant was started in 1948 by brothers
Maurice and Richard McDonald in San Bernardino, California.
• A Mc Nugget resembling George Washington was sold on eBay for
around $8000 in 2012.
• In 2017, McDonalds net revenue was more than four times greater
than Australia’s GDP.
McDonald’s INDIA
• In India McDonalds is a joint venture started by Amit jatia (MD of
Hardcastle restaurant Pvt LTD) and Vikram Bakshis (Connaught
plaza restaurant Pvt LTD).
• Amit jatia owns and spearhead McDonalds in west and south India.
• Vikram Bakshis owns and spearhead McDonalds in North and East
India.
• McDonalds India is committed to sourcing almost all of its product
from within the country. For this purpose, it has developed local
India business.
• McDonalds India provided quality employment and long-term
careers to the Indian people . McDonald’s worldwide is well known
for the high degree of respect to the local culture.
CHALLENGES
• Indian diversity.
• Religion/Cultural constraints.
• Indians wanted to taste American fast food, but it could not be a
substitute for Indian food. Hence adapting McDonalds menu to
Indian tastes was critical if they were to succeed in India.
• One aspect unique to India was that half its population was
vegetarian for whom a separate menu had to be created.
CHALLENGES
• Poor transportation and storage infrastructure.
• Lower-quality agricultural products.
• Perception that McDonalds was a food for rich people.
• Lower quality of agriculture products pricing and up selling
problems McDonalds India also faced many problems with the
employing people.
SOLUTIONS
• McDonalds India made separate menu for the Indians as per there
tastes and preference.
• They started using spices and ingredients of India to attract the
people in India.
• For Veggies, the company came up with a completely new line of
Vegetarian items like Mc Veggie burger and Mc Aloo Tikki.
• McDonalds strategy has been to increase sales volume of its
products by making its products available at affordable prices.
• They started cutting off some prices and offering value meals in
range of prices: Rs89, Rs99, Rs199.
SOLUTIONS
• McDonalds typically employs local people:
• Each restaurant in India employees more than 50 people:.
• Cashiers.
• Cooks.
• Managers.
• Attendants.
• Also every expansion brings additional employment opportunities to
India's agricultural workforce.
