GOOD MORNING, NURSE!

Every nurse needs a communication
skill. When you communicate to a
stranger, patient, doctor or medical
staff, you need some clues and
expressions to start your conversation.
In this unit you will be introduced to
several common phrases starting with
a conversation and useful expressions.
Useful Expression for Nurse
– Hello!
– Good morning, Mr Obama!
How are you today Mrs Ratna?
What is your complaint? Or What is your
chief/main complaint?

The following is dialogue between patient and nurse
in the room.
(N= Nurse, P= Patient)
•N : Hello, good morning Mr Andi, how are you?
•P : I feel unwell.
•N : So, how do you feel Mr Andi?
•P : I think there is something wrong with my
stomach, Everytime I eat I feel like vomiting.
•N : How long have you felt like this?
•P : for about 20 hours.
•N : Have you taken any medicine?
•P : No, I haven’t, nurse!
•N : Ok! Let me examine you Mr Andi. Please, lie
down here.
 Grammar Focus
Untuk menyatakan sudah atau belum, terutama
dalam pertanyaan maupun pernyataan bisa
menggunakan pola PRESENT PERFECT TENSE.

•S + have/has + V3 (Past Participle) + O
Example :
•(+) Mrs Dina has taken some medicine.
•(-) Mrs Dina hasn,t taken some medicine.
•(?) Has Mrs Dina taken any medicine?
- Yes, she has
- No, she hasn’t

ADMISSION
• Before entering a hospital, a patient is
given an admission form. It is used to
obtain information about case history, in
order to determine a patient goes to
appropriate ward. After that, he/she is
received by nurse. Based on a temperature
chart, a casehistory sheet and care report,
the nurse develop a precise report of care.
Therefore anurse needs an interview.
