WHAT IS WATER SCARCITY?
 Water scarcity is a lack of sufficient available water
resources to meet the demand of water usage within
region.
 Water shortage may be caused by climate change,
such as altered weather pattern, including drought,
flood , increased population, overuse of water.
 It currently affect around 2.8 billion people around the
world, at least one month out of every year and more
than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking
water.
WOLRD WATER SCARCITY
 The world’s water resources are rapidly running dry
creating a global crisis for every being on the planet.
 1 billion- nearly 1/6th of the world population are
already facing water shortage on daily basis.
SURVEY
 The united nation’ FAO states that by 2025, 1.9 billion
people will be living in countries with absolute water
scarcity, and two-third of the world population could be
under stress condition.
 780 million people lack access to clean drinking water.
 In the 20th century, population grew 3 folds but demand of
water grew to 6folds.
 In india water crisis is mainly a man-made problem.
 According to NITI ayog report, 600 million people in India
are facing high to extreme water scarcity and 70% of India
water is contaminated. 2,00,000 people die every year due
to inadequate access to safe water.
TYPES OF WATER SCARCITY
PHYSICAL SCARCITY:
 It occurs when there is not enough water for human being and
ecosystem to function properly.
 It happens when there is over development of hydraulic
infrastructure for irrigation and energy generation.
ECONOMIC SCARCITY:
 It is due to lack of investment in infrastructure or technology for
drawing water from rivers, aquifers, and other resources.
 One quarter of the world population also live in developing
countries that face water shortage due to lack of infrastructure.
 Large part of Africa suffer by economic water scarcity.
CAUSES
 Population growth
 Overuse of water
 Water Pollution
 Deforestation
 Climate change
 Global warming
EFFECTS
 Lack of access to clean water
 Hunger
 Lack of education
 Poor Health
 Sanitation issue
What is water pollution?
 Water pollution is the contamination of the water
bodies such as rivers, lakes, aquifiers, oceans, ground
water by the human activities. Pollution occurs when
pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into the
water bodies.
 Water pollution is any physical, chemical and
biological change in the quality of water that has
harmful effect on any living things or uses or live in it.
Sources of water pollution
 Point sources
 Non-point sources
CAUSES OF WATER POLLTUION
 Sewage
 Dumping of solid waste
 Industrial waste
 Oil production
 Acid rain
 Global warming
EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION
 Death of aquatic animals:-
The main problem caused by the water
pollution is that it kills life that depends on the water bodies like fishes,
crabs, birds and seagulls, dolphins and many other animals.

 Effect on human health:-

Humans are affected by these water pollution,
consumption of polluted water is the major cause of illness and
diseases like diarrhea, cholera, tuberculosis, jaundice etc. 1 out of every
4 death under the age of 5 worldwide is due to water related diseases.

 Destruction of ecosystem:-
Ecosystem are destroyed by the rising
temperature in water due to warm water , many water species shift to the
cooler water in other area causing an ecological damage shift to affected
area.
Solution of water scarcity &
pollution:-
 Education
 Desalination
 Water recycling
 Improve sewage system
 Water conservation
 Checking Water leakage
conclusion
 Water scarcity and pollution both are the major
problems. We have less than 1% of fresh water for
drinking and other purposes. It is our duty to avoid
overuses of water and not to pollute water. We can
overcome the situation of water scarcity by regular
checking of water resources, by knowing techniques of
conservation, recycling, desalination of ocean water,
education, by using correct farming techniques.
