health information; and

services.
•Health Information is the data and facts you got from
media and people including the professionals and
agencies.

Advertising strategies

Bandwagon
•Suggests you, the customer, will be left out if they do
not buy what is being sold.
•Use glittering generalities: words that evoke a positive
response.
Examples of glittering generalities: strong, unrivaled
, American, freedom, new, fresh, pure, better.
Advertising strategies

Testimonial
•Companies use celebrities to endorse their pro
ducts by getting the celebrities to give great
reviews.These can sometimes be misleading.

•Why is it beneficial for companies to use ce

lebrities rather than ordinary people?
Advertising strategies

Beautiful People
Using very attractive models/families (unrealist
ic?) to portray the possible outcomes of using
a product.

Good Times: The product used will help you “feel” good or h
ave a good time
Cure-all: Using the product will get rid of your problems
Instant Results: Use the product, and get instant results. W
hat kinds of products are marketed this way?
Advertising strategies

Informational Ads
•Make their claims mostly based on facts
•Use statistics (be careful of how they present st
atistics)
•Include the advice of “experts”
• Say what the product does
•Infomercials are perfect examples
Evaluating advertisements
Will the product really improve your
1 situation?

2 Make sure to read the fine print.

Ask yourself, “Do I really need it?”

What type of consumer are yo
u?
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

SPENDTHRIFT
The first group consists of consumers who never
bother about money and buy whatever they see.
Thrift and economy is not in their character. Always
they want to have luxury items.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

CLOSE-FISTED CONSUMERS
The second type of consumers are just opposite to
the first. They do not want to spend money even for
buying food articles. They always go for cheap
variety and thereby suffer from ill health.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

WASTEFUL CONSUMERS
There are some consumers who have the habit of
wasting everything. For example they do not switch
off the lights or close the taps. They throw away
good food
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

BARGAIN ADDICT CONSUMERS

They are familiar with bargain and discount sal
es. Everywhere you find banners with slogans
like 50 percent discount, take one and buy
one free etc. There are some consumers who
are in the habit of buying in these shops
regularly.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

PANIC BUYERS
Some consumers are in the habit of buying in large
quantities based on rumors. If somebody says that fr
om tomorrow petrol or sugar will not be available, th
ey will buy in large quantities and hoard them.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

IMPULSIVE CONSUMER

Whenever you see an attractive advertisement or

special offers you are tempted to buy that product.
You will not think before spending on such product
DIFFERENT KINDS OF CONSUMER

INTELLIGENT CONSUMERS

consumers who purchase only if they are able to pay.

They make a list of what to buy, when to buy, where to
buy and how much to buy. They know what they need
and what they want
