SEXUAL SELF

What is Sexual Self?

Sexual self-concept refers to

the totality of oneself as a
sexual being, including
positive and negative
concepts and feelings.
 Marie, E.N. (2001) explains that the gonads (reproductive glands that produces
gametes ; testes or ovary) begin to form during 8th week of EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT.
 During the EARLY STAGE of development, the embryonic
reproductive structures of males and females are alike and are
said to be INDIFFERENT STAGE.
 The formation of male and female structures depends on the
PRESENCE OF TESTOSTERONE and usually, once the embryonic
testes release testosterone, and the formation of the duct
system and external genitalia follow.

 Q1. Assuming that Sister Marie is on the embryonic stage of

pregnancy carrying female embryo that forms ovary. What is
not produced?
 A. Testosterone
 B. Testosterone Hormones
 C. Ovarian Duct
 D. All of the above
 Intervention
of the normal pattern of sex hormone
production in the embryo results in peculiar
abnormalities.
 Q2.For instance, Mama Imma’s genetic female
embryo was exposed to testosterone after 8th weeks
passed, will her baby still be a girl or boy? Why?
PSEUDOHERMAPHRODITE
Individuals having accessory of reproductive structures that
do not match their gonads.

HERMAPHRODITE
Individuals who possess both ovarian and testicular tissues
which is rare in nature.
Q3. Jennifer Pagonis, 29 years old
suffering from intersex condition.
 One month before the birth is the most crucial and critical event for the
development of reproductive organs. Wherein, the male testes formed in the
abdominal cavity, approximately the same location as the female ovaries,
descended to enter the scrotum. If normal events failed, it will lead to a
condition in which one or both of the testes fail to descend from the abdomen
into the scrotum.
Q4. It is a condition in which one or both of the testes fail to descend from the
abdomen into the scrotum.

CRYPTORCHIDISM
a condition in which one or both of the testes fail to descend from the abdomen into
the scrotum.
PUBERTY is the stage of life between 10 and 15 years old when
the reproductive organs grow to their adult size and become
functional under the influence of rising levels of gonadal
hormones ( testosterone in male and estrogen in female).

MALES
 Increased in reproductive organs
 Appearance of pubic hair
 Facial hair

FEMALE
 Budding of the breast
Hormones plays an important role in the
regulation of ovulation and fertility of fem
ales.
Q5. It is the first menstrual period of females which happens two
years after the start of puberty?

VAGINAL INFECTIONS are more common in young and elderly women and in those whose
resistance to disease is low.

 ESCHERIA COLI which is spread through the digestive tract ; the sexually transmitted
microorganism such as SYPHILIS, GONORRHEA, HERPES VIRUS AND YEAST.
 Syphilis is a bacterial infection usually spread by sexual contact. The disease starts as a
painless sore — typically on your genitals, rectum or mouth.
 GONORHEA is an STD which usually causes pain and other symptoms in your genital
tract, but it can also cause problems in your rectum, throat, eyes, or joints.

 HERPES VIRUS is an infection caused by HSV (herpes simplex virus). This virus affects the
external genitalia, anal region, mucosal surfaces, and skin in other parts of the body.
Herpes is a long-term condition.
 PROSTATIS is swelling and inflammation of the prostate gland, a walnut-sized gland
situated directly below the bladder in men. The prostate gland produces fluid (semen)
that nourishes and transports sperm. Prostatitis often causes painful or difficult urination.

 Urethritis is inflammation of the urethra. That's the tube that carries urine from the bladder
to outside the body. Pain with urination is the main symptom of urethritis.
EPIDIDYMITIS is an inflammation of the coiled tube (epididymis) at the back of the testicle
that stores and carries sperm.
