Q.1 Why BS-3 engine was banned?
Ans. Because it was damaging environment.

Q.2 Why was it damaging the environment?

Ans. Because it was producing unacceptable amounts of CO, HCO and
NOx emissions.
CO was emitted @ 1.20g/km and HCO+NOx @ 1.20g/km.
But the norms state that both of these emissions should not cross the
limit of 1.00 g/km.
Q.3 Why was it producing emissions?
Ans. Because of inability to process low Sulphur fuel. BS-4 requires
Sulphur content 50ppm while BS-3 can run on 350ppm.

Q.4 Why was it unable to process low Sulphur fuel?

Ans. Because of poor design. (Methods like adding some air into
exhaust to get rid of unburnt fuel vapors)

Q.5 Why was the design poor?

Ans. Because BS-3 was introduced in 2005 whereas BS-4 in 2017. So,
there were many advancements in technology in this period.
