Why student survey dataset?

Education sector is a very important portion of the whole economy of India.

Hence, we wanted to analyze the satisfaction level of the students based on
the ratings, each from 1 (very bad) to 5 (very good) given by them in a
survey.

This data set consists of 5820 observations (students) with 33 features (28
survey questions and 5 attributes namely: instructor, class, repeat,
attendance, difficulty).
PROBLEM STATEMENT
To enhance the quality of education, it is very important for an institution to have excellent instructors.
The objective is to analyze the impact of the various factors on the rating of the instructors through
implementation of cluster analysis.
The factors considered for analysis are mentioned below :
1. Timeliness
2. Teaching methods
3. Relationship with the instructor
4. Subject knowledge
5. Availability of teachers
The Analysis Method adopted was as follows:
• Data Exploration & Data Cleaning
• Training Model (K-Means Clustering)
DATA EXPLORATION
Basic Analysis:
• This dataset has 3 Instructors, who taught 13 classes.
• We compared the number of responses by students.
• As we can see, most students were taught by the 3rd
Instructor, but this doesn’t necessarily mean he taught
most of the classes.
• We can see that 3rd instructor taught 7 classes : class
no 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, and 13.
• The grand mean of all questions= 3.18 which is a
middle value.
• The standard deviation is 0.10, which is reasonably
small and inline with the graph. This mean that the
quality of each class is more or less the same according
to the survey answers.
TRAINING MODEL: K-MEANS CLUSTERING

From the graph,

we can see that
maximum
respondents(1409
)- Cluster 2 have
given an average
rating of 3.

It is difficult to
visually interpret
the most
influencing factor.

Hence, an in-
depth analysis is
done.
TIMELINESS

FACTORS AFFECTING SATISFACTION
INSIGHTS/INTERPRETATION:
• From the above graphs we can see that Timeliness (26%) is the most
important factor that influences the instructor quality followed by Teaching
methods & Relationship with students (19%) for this particular dataset.
• Therefore, the other low performing instructors (1&2) have to concentrate
more on timeliness in-order to get more ratings from the students.
• Timeliness includes:
Timely arrival, finishing class on time & no extra classes.
• By doing so, the quality of all the instructors will be improved and the entire
educational institution will me more efficient than before.
QUESTION ASKED BY SIR:
What other questions can be asked to students to evaluate the instructor other
than timeliness?
ANSWERS GIVEN:
Questions can be framed based on:
1) Effective teaching methods and interaction - Priyankka
2) By providing more industry & practical exposure - Kashish
3) Simulation on corporate scenario - Aarushi
4) Pedagogy- Availability of Internships & bridging the gap – Sachin Sabu
5) Course commitment, provide materials prior to class, Exclusive training for
exams – Sarath
