 THREE WAY SWITCH (S3W)
OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the period the students will be able

to:
Identify three way switch;
Follow the procedure of wiring/connecting wires using three
way switch; and
Perform the basic wiring connection a three way switch.
 THREE WAY SWITCH (S3W)
• is one of the many types of special switches where you can turn ON and OFF the
light into 2 different locations
• the top terminal connects to one or the other of the bottom two terminals. A three
way switch has three terminals, and the switch connects the first terminal to either
the second or the third terminal.
• In your house or apartment, you probably have at least one light that is controlled
by two separate switches. Whenever you flip either one of the switches, the light
changes its state—if it is on it turns off, and if it is off it turns on.
• The switches must create complete circuit for current to flow and the bulb to light.
When both switches are up, the circuit is complete (top right). When both switches
are down, the circuit is complete.
 PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW FOR S3W
1.Hot of a circuit breaker to Zero (0) of the 1st Switch.
2.1 of the 1st switch connects to the 1 of the 2nd Switch.
3.3 of the 1st switch connects to the 3 of the 2nd Switch.
4.Then, Zero of the 2nd Switch connects to the center (positive) of
the bulb.
5.Lastly, the negative of a bulb going through the cold of a circuit
breaker.
