ABSTRACT
• This project presents a novel two stage buck boost converter with a soft switching operation
for RE applications.
• The proposed converter is constructed of two identical buck boost converters working in
parallel.
• This inductor plays an important role in the soft switching operation of the converter by
maintaining the voltage applied to switches at ZERO at switching intervals. The utilized
method is called the ZERO voltage switching method.

• The detailed analysis of the circuit operation is provided in EIGHT modes and also the
performance of this converter is analysed by using it in wind power generation.
INTRODUCTION
• The buck boost converter is called DC-DC converter. There are two different topologies in
buck boost converter.
• One is inverting topology and another one is non inverting topology both of them can
produce a range of output voltages.
• The output voltage is opposite polarity then the input. This is called a switched mode
power supply(SMPS) with same circuit topologies to the boost converter and the buck
converter.
• Based on the duty cycle of the switching transistor, the output voltage is adjustable.
DC-DC CONVERTER
• Dc-Dc converters are electronic devices used whenever we want to change DC electrical
power efficiently from one voltage level to another voltage.

• Generally speaking the use of a switch or switches for the purpose of power conversion
can be regarded as a SMPS.

• From now onwards whenever we mention DC-DC converters we shall address them with
respect to SMPS.

• In all of this applications,we want to change the DC energy from one voltage level to
another, while wasting as little as possible in the process.
BUCK-CONVERTER

fig:Buck converter

• The buck converter is used to step an input voltage down from higher potential to a lower potential. The circuit
usually consists of an inductor to store energy and a switch to control the power flow
• ON STATE:When the switch is on the diode is open and the inductor and the load side is connected to the
inductor stores energy.
• OFF STATE:The switch opens to isolate the source from the rest of the circuit the diode becomes positive biased
as the inductor changes polarity and the inductor discharges to provide energy to the load.
BOOST CONVERTER

• A boost converter(step-up converter)is a DC-DC power converter with an output

voltage greater than its input voltage.
• It is a class of switched-mode power supply(SMPS) containing at least two
semiconductor switches.
• Filters made of capacitors are normally added to the output of the converter to
reduce output voltage ripple.
BI-DIRECTIONAL DC-DC CONVERTER
• Most of the existing bidirectional DC-DC converter fall into the generic circuit structure
illustrated in below fig ,which is characterized by a current fed or voltage fed on one
side.

• Based on the placement of the auxiliary energy storage, the bidirectional DC-DC coverter
can be categorized into buck-boost type.

• The buck type is to have energy storage placed on the high voltage side, and the boost
type is to have it placed on the low voltage side.

ADVANTAGES&APPLICATIONS
• It gives higher output voltages
• Low operating duct cycle.
• Low voltage on MOSFETs.
APPLICATIONS:
• It has consumer electronics.
• It is used in the battery power system.
• Adaptive control applications.
• Power amplifier applications.
CONCLUSION&FUTURE SCOPE
• In this project,a novel double-stage buck-boost converter with ZVS capability is
proposed.
• The theoretical analysis and design equations are describe to achieve the soft
switching operation of the proposed converter.
• To investigate the effect of the ZVS technique on the proposed converter efficiency
rather than a normal single-stage buck-boost converter, the output power has been
changed within the interval of 100-200W.
FUTURE SCOPE:
• This concept can be accomplished in the similar dc/dc converters such as Cuk converter
etc..
