SUPERVISORS AND THEIR ROLES
A supervisor is the first level manager in
charge of entry level and other departmental
employees.
Roles of
supervisors:

Supervisors are essentially management people because they
direct direct the work to be done, interpret policies and also
make decisions.
The ones who are in direct contact with employees and who
understand worker behaviour
Supervisors are important in transmitting information from
top management to the workers.

THE KEY PERSON
is a key in ensuring smooth communication between top management and the workers
THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE
•top management expects the supervior to instruct the workers to get job done in order
to achieve organizational goals.
•workers expect the supervior to be on their side, by being the person who speaks up
for them to the top management, and guide them in carrying out their daily duties.
THE MARGINAL MAN
•superviors have no one to support them, expects their pees.
•being the marginal man, a supervisor only manages operative employees, but not
other managers.

the supervisor is said to be a behavioural specialist, who is an expert in understanding
the behaviour of employees.
