great value, offering the most vibrant and complete shopping
environment.
 Giant Hypermarket, which is owned by Giant Capital Holdings (GCH), is
one of the largest hypermarkets in Malaysia.
 It was founded in 1944 by the Teng family in Kuala Lumpur. It’s
headquarters is based at Shah Alam, Selangor.
 Giant is operating under the retail industry.
 Besides having plenty of outlet stores around Malaysia, Giant also has outlet
stores around the Southeast Asia countries such as Singapore, Indonesia,
Vietnam, India and also Hong Kong.

 This system will scan the barcode of product by using scanner and it will show at the monitor of
the cashier

 Customer will know the total price of all product

 Head Office, for example, in Giant Hypermarket, they can know the type of goods purchased
by their customers, the number of items that have been purchased and that data will be the
transfer to be processed to find the number of items that should be added

 Using this system also makes Giant Hypermarket easier to find out what types of product that
they should added day-to-day and by using this system

 Giant Hypermarket also can maintaining their data, which involves adding new data, changing
existing data, or removing unwanted data.
Decision Support System
 A DSS help decision makers analyze unanticipated situations
 Giant Hypermarket uses several computers which are located in a room known as the
system office and form the supermarkets own Local Area Network.
 These computers are used to control the stock and are connected to the checkouts.
These are the ‘branch computers’.
 The computers are multi-functional, and each can access the data, which give the
management a number of access points.
 Admin and stock control staff now have access to hand held computers, SEC (Shelf
Edge Computers). These are used for price change, creating stock pictures (information
on stock totals) and for forecasting deliveries.

 Using those system give much advantage such as read the barcode on product,
captures and processes data generated during an organization’s day-to-day
transactions, maintaining their data, which involves adding new data, changing
existing data, or removing unwanted data and also advantage by using decision
support system help the company to change the price and creating stock picture
