 • Motor vehicle accidents
• In children ages 5 to 19:
• Injuries from motor vehicle accidents are the
top cause of death from injury.
• Every hour, almost 150 children visit emergency
departments due to serious injuries from motor
COMMON vehicle accidents.
• Car seat are always misused in a way that could

TRAUMA/INJURY • Suffocation (being unable to breathe)

liquids or steam.
COMMON • Electrical injury can happen to infant from 6 months
– 3 year (crawling and walking near to power supply)
CAUSES OF • Older children are more likely to be burned from

• Falls
TRAUMA/INJURY • Falls are the most common cause of nonfatal injuries
for children ages 0 to 19.
• Falls from height or bicycle (handlebar injury)
• Each day, about 8,000 children visit emergency
departments due to injuries from falls.
 • Violence
• Physical abuse can cause trauma in
peadiatrics.
• It can cause severe injury (multiple
fracture/ICB/intra-abdominal injury)
