AW Controls Ltd.

Ventilation Fan Control Panel

GENTECH 4PM3 By: Ivan Baguisa

Project Charter

• PROJECT DESCRIPTION: AW Controls Ltd. was contacted by HVAC Integration LLC.

to provide a Ventilation Control Panel that could be integrated with their air intake
system. The Control Panel should be a cost effective solution that meets or exceeds
customer expectations.

• PROJECT OBJECTIVES: To engineer, design, and build a Ventilation Control Panel

that will provide power and controls to (4) Intake Fans, (2) motorized louvers and (1)
temperature sensor (all supplied by HVAC Integration LLC.). The panel should be fully
automated using a PLC under normal conditions. The panel should also provide manual
controls for maintenance or emergency shutdown. The estimated time to complete the
project is 46 days starting on October 4th 2019 and finishing on November 16th 2019.
Product Requirements
• Contain a main circuit breaker for Control Panel isolation Supply 120V, 1-phase
power for controls
• Control Panel isolation and downstream protection
• Contain branch circuit breakers for individual fan protection
• Use reduced voltage soft starters to limit inrush current on start up
• PLC for automatic control
• Selector switches for manual control
• Indicator lights for panel status
• Control Panel isolation E-Stop button for emergency shutdown
• Supply 600V, 3-phase power for intake fan power
• Supply 120V, 1-phase power for controls
Scope
The Project Scope consists of providing detailed engineering and design expertise so
that the Air Intake System can be fully operational by a Control Panel. AW Controls Ltd.
will purchase all required material to assemble the panel in house. The production team
will build the panel as per the engineering construction drawings and program the PLC
ladder logic to meet customer’s control requirements. Quality Assurance will provide
inspection using the ITP created for control panels. In order to meet federal regulations,
the panel will be inspected and certified by the local governing authority. Finally, the
panel will be shipped to the customer’s site location.
Exclusions from the scope include any field wiring between the control panel and field
mounted devices. The customer will be responsible for mounting of the enclosure and
will be required to supply required mounting support. The panel will include no spare
parts, but recommended suppliers can be provided.
Quality
Standards:
• The standards that apply to this project are the Canadian Electrical Code 22.1 which
is required for all electrical work performed in Canada and UL-508A which is required
for the assembly of any electrical enclosure or panel.

Quality Requirements:
• Enclosure to be designed to meet customer specifications
• Material selected to be approved for use in Canada
• Enclosure to meet requirements outlined by UL-508A
• All electrical work to comply with the Canadian Electrical Code
• Product to be certified by ETL Inspectors to ensure compliance with UL-508A and
the Canadian Electrical Code
