INTRODUCTION TO
ACCOMODATION FACILITIES
-BIBLICAL TIMES (Mary and Joseph were refused
accommodations )

-The first hotels were nothing more than private homes


opened to the public.

-The first inn located in America was recorded in the year


1607 and lead the way with many other firsts in the
hospitality industry. The first publicly held hotel (the City
Hotel) opened in New York in 1792. The first modern hotel
(the Tremont) opened in Boston in 1809 and the first
business hotel (the Buffalo Statler) opened in 1908.

HOTEL
- Originated from the French word “ hotel” which means
host. It is defined as profit oriented business that offers
guest rooms, business facilities and other services.
Guests stay in hotels for different reasons, either for
business or leisure.

HOTEL RATING SYSTEM
• 1-Star hotel provides a limited range of amenities and services, but adheres to a high standard
of facility-wide cleanliness.

• 2-Star hotel provides good accommodation and better equipped bedrooms, each with a
telephone and attached private bathroom.

• 3-Star hotel has more spacious rooms and adds high-class decorations and furnishings and color
TV. It also offers one or more bars or lounges.

• 4-Star hotel is much more comfortable and larger, and provides excellent cuisine (table d'hote
and a la carte), room service, and other amenities.

• 5-Star hotel offers most luxurious premises, widest range of guest services, as well as swimming
pool and sport and exercise facilities.
