4 PURPOSES OF 1 JOHN
SEVEN CONTRASTS
పరససర వరదద ల IN 1 JOHN
THE SEVEN “IF WE SAY / HE WHO
SAYS” IN 1 JOHN
Sin not leading to death
Sin leading to death
1 John 5:16-17
• 1 John 5:16-17 - If anyone sees his brother
committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask
& God will for him give life to those who commit sin
not leading to death. There is a sin leading to
death; I do not say that he should make request for
this.
• 17 All unrighteousness is sin, & there is a sin not
leading to death.
• Sins leading to physical death: Suicide, drug &
alcohol use, violating the traffic laws
• The Jews murdered
– Jesus & Stephen prayed for them (Luke 23:34; Acts
7:60)
• All sins (Rom 6:20-23)
– Restored with the help of others (Gal 6:1; Matt
18:15-16; Acts 8:24)
– Restored through prayer (1 John 1:8-10)
• Disrespecting God
– Deut 1:43 - So I spoke to you (Numbers 14), but
you would not listen. Instead you rebelled against
the command of the Lord, & acted
presumptuously [insolent; casual disrespect,
unrestrained] & went up into the hill country.
• Disrespecting God
– Deut 17:12-13 - The man who acts
presumptuously by not listening to the priest who
stands there to serve the Lord your God, nor to
the judge, that man shall die; thus you shall purge
the evil from Israel. 13 Then all the people will
hear & be afraid, & will not act presumptuously
again.
• Disrespecting God
– Num 15:30-31 - But the person who does anything
defiantly [deceive, mislead, betray] whether he is
native or an alien, that one is blaspheming the
Lord; & that person shall be cut off from among
his people. 31 ‘Because he has despised the word
of the Lord & has broken His commandment, that
person shall be completely cut off; his guilt will be
on him.’“
• Disrespecting God
– Heb 10:26-28 - For if we go on sinning willfully
after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there
no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a
terrifying expectation of judgment & THE FURY OF
A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.
– Hebrews 6:4-5
• Disrespecting God
– 2 Peter 2:20 - For if, after they have escaped the
defilements of the world by the knowledge of the
Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, they are again
entangled in them & are overcome, the last state
has become worse for them than the first.
• Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit
– Jesus told the Jews they could reject Him, but if
they blasphemed the Holy Spirit they could not be
forgiven (Luke 12:10; Matt 12:31-32; Mk 3:28-30;
Mark 16:20; Heb 2:3-4)
• Praying for sinners:
– Christians who have sinned (James 5:15)
– Job for his friends bad advice (Job 42:7-9)
– Abraham for Abimelech (Gen 20:7)
– Moses for Israel (Psalm 106:23)
– Hezekiah for the unpurified (2 Chron 30:18-20)
– Amos for Israel (Amos 7:1-3)
• Disrespecting God & Blaspheme His word.
– No intercessor found (Ezekiel 22:29-30)
– Do not pray for Israel (Jer 7:16; 11:14)
• Jer 15:1-2 - Then the Lord said to me, “Even
though Moses & Samuel were to stand before
Me, My heart would not be with this people;
send them away from My presence & let them
go! 2 And it shall be that when they say to you,
‘Where should we go?’ then you are to tell them,
‘Thus says the Lord: “Those destined for death,
to death; & those destined for the sword, to the
sword; & those destined for famine, to famine; &
those destined for captivity, to captivity.”‘
Salvation remains open for all
who will accept it.

People cannot delay for long.
