Network Topology and Technology
( LAN Topology ) ”
“ Physical topology refers to the interconnected structure of
a local area network (LAN). The method employed to
connect the physical devices on the network with the cables,
and the type of cabling used, all constitute the physical
topology “
“ Logical Topology
( WAN Topology )
”
A logical topology (WAN) stand for “wide area Network” that
cover large area they are connect through Wireless. internet Like
as ( country to Country )
“
Network Technology
”
Network technology is the use of connected systems either via optic cable, satelite, wireless
connections to relay various data , communication and resources in different parts of the
world. it uses a build infrastructure to relay information either through communication,
internet networking, voice calls, etc.

Bus Topology
A bus topology is a topology for a Local Area Network (LAN) in which all
the nodes are connected to a single cable. The cable to which the nodes
connect is called a "backbone". If the backbone is broken, the entire
segment fails.
Advantages of Bus topology
1. Easy to implement and extend
2. Well suited for temporary.
3. Typically the least cheapest topology to
implement
4. Failure of one station does not affect others
Disadvantages of Bus topology
1. Difficult to administer/troubleshoot
2. Limited cable length and number of
stations
3. A cable break can disable the entire
network; no redundancy
4. Maintenance costs may be higher in the
long run
5. Performance degrades as additional
computers are added
Star Topology
A star topology is a topology for a Local Area Network (LAN) in which all
nodes are individually connected to a central connection point, like a hub
or a switch. A star takes more cable than e.g. a bus, but the benefit is that
if a cable fails, only one node will be brought down.
Advantages of Star topology
1. Compared to Bus topology it gives far
much better performance
2. Easy to connect new nodes or devices
3. Centralized management. It helps in
monitoring the network
4. Failure of one node or link doesn’t affect
the rest of network
Disadvantages of Star topology
1. If central device fails whole network
goes down
2. The use of hub, a router or a switch
as central device increases the overall
cost of the network
3. Performance and as well number of
nodes which can be added in such
topology is depended on capacity of
central device
Ring Topology
A tree topology is a special type of structure in which many connected elements are
arranged like the branches of a tree. For example, tree topologies are frequently used to
organize the computers in a corporate network, or the information in a database
(combination of bus and star topology is called tree topology).
Advantages of Tree topology
1. Other hierarchical networks are not
affected if one of them gets damaged.
2. Extension of bus and star topologies.
3. Easily managed and maintained.
4. Error detection is easily done.
Disadvantages of Tree topology
1. On the failure of a hub, the entire
network fails.
2. Tree network is very difficult to
configure than other network topologies
3. Heavily cabled.
4. Costly
