RADIO AND TELEVISION
WHAT IS RADIO?

The transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves of radio


frequency, especially those carrying sound messages. Radio simply refers to
an audio form of communication, using radio waves, an electromagnetic
radiation to broadcast from a transmitter to a receiving antenna.
INTRODUCTION

 The radio has been the first device to allow communication at massive
level. It enabled information and messages to be transferred from one
place to another. The radio receives electromagnetic waves from the air
that are sent by a radio transmitter. Electromagnetic waves are a
combination of electrical and magnetic fields that overlap. The most
common modes for a broadcast radio are AM (amplitude modulation) and
FM (frequency modulation).
BACKGROUND AND HISTORY OF RADIO

 The invention of radio began in 1893.


 Radio was invented by Guglielmo Marconi.
 There is no specific date in which Radio was invented however it was first
established after twenty year of telephone invention.
 At that time, telephones were the only device used for communication.
 Guglielmo Marconi used the same method to send radio signals
 The invention was offered to Italian government. But the proposal was turned
down. Marconi migrated to England where he carried out further experiments
on his radio invention.
 In Chelmsford, Essex, the first radio factory was established. A radio link was
discovered between Britain and France.
WHAT WAS RADIO USED FOR?

 During the time of distress, a sinking ship would use a radio to call for help.
 The radio was used for soldiers to communicate .
 Radio was used for entertainment.
 It was used to listen news and music.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL IMPORTANCE OF
PAKISTAN’S RADIO

 Pakistan Radio has the potential to play the role of a favourite institution to
promote art and culture in the country.
 Radio Pakistan is still continuing with its historical role in the promotion of culture
and providing real time information to the people of far-flung areas of Pakistan.
 With its network of regional radio stations, the organization is providing
transmission in more than 20 regional languages. These regional radio stations
are regarded as leading cultural centers in their respective areas.
 Radio, like other source of information, alters the cultural values, lifestyles,
attitudes and even morals of local inhabitants listening to it.
 Therefore its attempt to change people’s opinion for what it considers maybe
better, profoundly affects the social system of entire society.

RADIO

ADVANTAGES
 Important information or news can be easily spread on radio.
 Radio can be enjoyed at home, at work, and while driving.
 It is also an illiterate persons medium.
 Radio is a universal medium
DISADVANTAGES
 During bad weather you cannot listen radio properly. Often unclear and is
affected by weather.
 Less and limited radio channels are available compared to other
communication medium.
 Radio is only an audio medium for communication.
 Listeners cannot refer back to your ads to go over important points.
 You need to adjust frequency properly.
WHAT IS TELEVISION

 A television is an electrical device used for entertainment, learning and


work. A television can be used to watch the evening news, play a game
and much more.

 Television is one of our world’s most important means of communication.


We can watch formation programs like news, documentaries and sports
events through it. A television works by internal beams of light hitting
hundreds of receptors on the inside of the television screen and causing
them to light up.
BACKGROUND AND HISTORY OF TELEVISION

 There was no single inventor of the television, there were many inventors
working on the idea of watching pictures on the screen.
 The first experiments with television broadcasting were conducted in the
1920s and 1930s in Great Britain and United States.
 In 1930, BBC started the first program was broadcast in 1941.
 The world’s first television broadcast in America.
 While the first TV sets were black and white television introduced in the
early 1950s. Then mechanical, electronic, color, digital, smart and 3d
televisions have been introduced.
Cultural and social importance of
Pakistan’s television

 Television is become a very important element for our life.


 Television promotes Pakistan’s culture in efficient way. Pakistan’s Television
played a great role in promoting and presenting Pakistani culture. Now
people from other countries know about our culture and moral values just
because of Television
 Television is the best source to raise voice on social problems and matters.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF
TELEVISION

ADVANTAGES
 Television is the most effective medium to deliver information to large
numbers of people very quickly.
 Television can educate people.
 News in one part of the world can be seen within minutes or even seconds
in any other part of the world.
 Television is a source of entertainment that is affordable.
DISADVANTAGES
 Children can be exposed to programming that is not appropriate for their
age.
 The more that television is watched, the less exercise people tend to get.
 Family discussion and conversation can be reduced or eliminated with by
the television being the focus of attention.
