It’s the real thing.

BY CAPUYON, CORPUZ, CRUZ OF GROUP 3

COCA-COLA ONCE HAD
COCAINE.
Cocaine comes from the leaf of a coca plant, one
native from South America. It also happens to be
Pablo one of the two main ingredients of the world-
renowned drink, hence its name, COCA-COLA.
(Cola came from the kola nut, which is a
different story). By 1903 the public were
changing their opinion on the widely used
narcotic, making “patent medicines” think twice
about using cocaine in their products. By 1929,
all traces of cocaine were removed.
CATEGORY
IS COCAINE PART OF ANY “DRUG FRATS?”
STIMULANTS: THE “UPPERS”
Cocaine is part of a group of drugs known as
stimulants. These drugs speed up the messages
between the brain and the body, leaving a person
more awake, alert, confident, or energetic. Other
notable members are caffeine, amphetamine, and
meth, among others.
Large doses of these can cause over-stimulation,
causing anxiety, panic, seizures, headaches, cramps,
aggression, paranoia, and sometimes tremors. Long
term use and abuse of these can cause irreversible
effects.
SUBSTANCES
WHAT’S INSIDE?
THERE ARE MANY SUBSTANCES IN IT.

It starts with the benzoylmethylecgonine of the coca plant. This is then

made into cocaine paste, a white, gray, or dull-brown powder. This
contains 40 or 80% cocaine sulfate. This is known as pasta or bazooka in
some places.
This is then refined to produce cocaine hydrochloride crystal, the key
ingredient in crack and powder coke. This is the main psychoactive
ingredient and is responsible for producing the cocaine high. It’s sold as
a white powder, which users can either inject in themselves or “snort” it.
FILLER INGREDIENTS

The cocaine sold on the streets isn’t really pure

cocaine. They are littered with different ingredients
and is usually done to increase profit. The ingredients
added can be either mundane or lethal. These
chemicals include:

Psychoactive Anaesthetic

Poisonous Just kinda there (Fillers)
