Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

1. Identify the characteristics of intellectually gifted person


2. Determine the four main classifications of exceptionally deficit
children
3. Give examples for each classifications
4. Ascertain the implications of children who are exceptionally-
developed to educational curriculum and to educators.

Physical Disability

- a physical condition that affects a


person’s mobility, physical capacity,
stamina or dexterity.

Example:

Cerebral Palsy- affects the way the


brain controls the body’s muscles
resulting in speech, movement and
posture difficulties
Mental Retardation

- characterized by below-
average intelligence or
mental ability and a lack
of skills necessary for
day-to-day living
Language Disorder
- any systematic deviation in the
way people speak, listen, read,
write or sign that interferes the
way they communicate with
their peers.

Example:

1. Aphasia- loss of ability to use


and understand language. It
excludes deafness.
Categorizies of aphasia:

Receptive Expressive Global


Irreversible aphasia
Wernicke's aphasia Broca's aphasia syndrome

Language Disorder

2. Dyslexia- learning disorder


that involves difficulty reading
due to problems identifying
speech sound and learning how
they relate to letters and words
(decoding).
Behavioral Disability
- involves patterns of disruptive
behaviors in children and cause
problems in school, at home, and in
social institutions

Examples:

1. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity


Disorder- disorder that make it
difficult for a person to pay attention
and control impulse behaviors
2. Autism- refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by
challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and
nonverbal communication.

3. Schizophrenia- a serious mental disorder in which people


interpret reality abnormally. It may result in some combination of
hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and
behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling.

A. Warm and accepting school atmosphere

C. Teacher-student respect and understanding
D. Teach interactively
E. Multi-level, multi-modality curriculum
