GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
 Anterior teeth setup
 Posterior teeth setup

 Ridge resorption and Ridge relationship

 Compensating Curves
SETTING UPPER ANTERIOR TEETH
 The incisive papilla is a good guide for the
anteroposterior positioning of the anterior teeth.
 Labial surfaces of anterior teeth are usually 8 –
10 mm infront of the papillae. However this
varies and is not an absolute relationship.
RELATIONSHIP OF TEETH TO OCCLUSAL
PLANE, VERTICAL AXIS AND FRONTAL
PLANE
 Upper Central Incisor
Placed in line with the
mid-line, parallel to it
or slight distal tilt
Incisal edges touching the
occlusal plane
Labial tilt of around 10-15
degrees
0.5 – 1 mm of overbite and
1-2 mm of overbite
 Upper Lateral Incisor
 Maxillary Canine

Long axis parallel to the midline and

vertical axis

Cuspal tip touches the occlusal plane

Prominent neck

Distal slope not visible from

the labial view
SETTING MANDIBULAR ANTERIOR TEETH

Parallel to the midline

Slight mesial incline, lesser labial to

no labial tilt, slightly above the occlusal plane

Vertical axis parallel to long axis, sliglt lingual

tilt may be given, mesially sloping canine to
provide Class I Canine Relationship
RECAP!
POSTERIOR TEETH SETUP

Mark center of ridge and transfer it to the occlusal place

These lines will be used to position posterior denture teeth to ensure that
Mandibular posterior teeth are centered over the ridge (Neutral Zone)
UPPER PRE MOLARS
Both premolars are
set up with the long
axis perpendicular
to the occlusal plane
and both buccal and
palatal cusps should
touch the occlusal place
*Make sure to view from the back of the articulator to ensure that
the lingual cusps contact the occlusal plane!
MAXILLARY MOLAR
Mesio-palatal cusp of first maxillary
molar contacts the occlusal plane.
The buccal and distopalatal cusps are
elevated 0.5 mm off the occlusal plane

The compensating curve begins

in the first molar region
SECOND MOLAR
Anterior Posterior curve is continued by further elevating the 2nd
molar off the occlusal plane.
LOWER POSTERIORS

Mandibular Molar is now set, Mesiobuccal cusp tip should engage the
embrasure between the maxillary 1st molar and 2nd premolar.
COMPENSATORY CURVES
 Compensating curves are artificial curves
introduced into dentures in order to facilitate the
production of balanced occlusion.

 They are artificial counter parts of the curve of

speeand curve of Monson found in natural
dentition.
CURVE OF SPEE
 It’s the anatomical curvature of the
occlusalalignment of the teeth beginning at the
tip of the lower cuspid extended through the
buccal cusp of the posterior teeth and
continuing to the anterior border of the
ramus.
 This formed an arc of a circle of 7cm radius with
a center at cristalacremalisposterior.
 This curved manner allow simultaneous contact
between teeth during protrusive movements
CURVE OF MONSON
 It is the curve of Occlusion touching the cusp tips
of posterior teeth in frontal plane

 It forms a segment of the surface of a sphere 20

cm in diameter with its centre at the glabella.
 Every tooth opposes two teeth except for
Mandibular Incisors and Maxillary Second
Molars

 All posteriors should have horizontal overlap to

prevent cheek bite
