Distribution channel of fertilisers

Department of Agriculture & Co-operation (DAC)

projects monthly demand in consultation with the State
Governments before each season

DOF allocates sufficient/adequate quantities of fertilizers to

States by issuing monthly supply plan and continuously
monitors the availability

Online monitoring system(web online based) also called as

Fertilizer Monitoring System (FMS);

Regular Weekly Video Conference is conducted jointly by Department of

Agriculture & Cooperation (DAC) Department of Fertilizers (DoF), and
Ministry of Railways with State Agriculture Officials and corrective actions
are taken to dispatch fertilizer as indicated by the State Governments.

7
Network
The system as it exists today comprises the following categories of
dealers:
• Categories of dealers
• Co-operatives - Institutional Agencies such as Agro Industries
Corporation, etc.
• Wholesale distributors, Small dealers
• Company-run retail outlets, e.g. IFFCO.
• Point of sales

DEREGULATION OF UREA

Objectives- Measures-

To reduce Deregulation of
excessive Urea and putting it
reliance of in place of
farmers on Nutrient Based
Urea Subsidy(NBS)
similar to P & K
fertilizers
To control the
diversion of urea by
buyers for industrial
use Limiting the number
of subsidized bags
To control smuggling to neighboring countries of Urea for farmers
such as Nepal and Bangladesh where price of
Urea is higher
9
Manganese- Direct role in
Boron- Supports the structural photosynthesis, accelerates
and functional integrity of plant germination and maturity
while increasing the
cell membrane availability of phosphorus and
calcium
MICRONUTRIENTS
Copper- Activates enzymes and
catalyzes reaction in growth Molybdenum- Required for
processes and ensure protein the synthesis and activity of
synthesis the enzyme nitrase reductase

Iron- Associated with energy Zinc- Chlorophyll formation,

transfer, nitrogen reduction and conversion of starches to
fixation, lignin formation sugars, auxin formation

Chlorine- Opening and closing of

stomata, also ensures firmness of
leaves

BIO-FERTILIZERS
Bio fertilizer is a substance that consists of living microorganisms, which help in the growth of plant
by increasing the supply of nutrients to it.

Types of Classification of Bio-Fertilizers

Bio-Fertilizers • Rhizobium
• Azotobacter
• Azospirillum
• Azolla
N2 Fixing P Solubilizing • Cyanobacteria
• Phosphate solubilizing microorganisms
• AM Fungi

WATER SOLUBLE FERTILIZERS

Definition:

Water soluble fertilizers are fertilizers that can be readily dissolved in water and added or
leached out of the soil easily.
Water soluble fertilizers help in controlling availability of precise amount of
nutrients to the plants and the results will be more exact in case of soil-less mixes.

21
Examples of Water Soluble Fertilizers:
Fertilizer Solubility at 20 dc (g/l)

Ammonium Sulphate 750

Calcium Nitrate 1290
Potassium Chloride 350
Magnesium Nitrate 710
Mono Ammonium Phosphate – MAP (12-61-0) 374

Mono Potassium Phosphate – MKP (0-52-34) 230

NEEM COATED UREA

• Urea coated with Neem tree seed oil is called Neem-coated urea

HISTORY:
• On 02/06/2008, GOI notified that 20% of total urea production in the country should be
of neem-coated urea
• On 11/01/2011, GOI increased it to 35%
• Similarly, on 24/03/2015, it is increased to 75%
• From 25/05/2015, 100% of production in the country is neem-coated urea

23
BENEFITS OF NEEM-COATED UREA:
• Improvement of soil health
• Reduction in pest & disease attack
• Reduction in use of plant protection chemicals
• Significant increase in crop yields as follows,

Crop % increase in yield

Paddy 5.79
Sugarcane 17.5
Maize 7.14
Soya bean 7.4
