Introduction

1.Solar energy is the energy obtained by capturing heat and light

from the Sun.
2. Energy from the Sun is referred to as solar energy.
3 . Technology has provided a number of ways to utilize this
abundant resource.
4. It is considered a green technology because it does not emit
greenhouse gases.
5. Solar energy is abundantly available and has been utilized
since long both as electricity and as a source of heat.
Characteristics of solar energy

1.Solar energy is an inexhaustible, clean, renewable

energy source.
2.Photovoltaic cells are a key component in solar power
generation, so thorough research on output
characteristics is of far-reaching importance.
3.In this paper, an illumination model and a
photovoltaic power station output power model were
established, and simulation analysis was conducted
using Matlab and other software.
Objectives of solar energy

 Promote the use of sustainable, economic and least-cost

decentralized electrification solutions for areas not feasible
for grid connection/extension in partnership with the local
government units, semi-private and private sectors.

 Increase productivity, promote livelihood and social

interaction in the community by extending their time at night.

Apply solar energy technology as the enabling technology

for sustainable development.
Advantages of solar energy

 Renewable energy source: Among all the benefits of solar

energy, the most important thing is teht solar energy is a truly
renewable energy source
Reduces electricity bills: Since you will be meeting some of
your energy needs with the electricity your solar system has
generated, your energy bills will drop.
Diverse applications :Solar energy can be used for diverse
purposes. You can generate electricity or heat
Low maintenance cost: Solar energy systems generally don’t
require a lot of maintenance. You only need to keep them
relatively clean, so cleaning them a couple of times per year
will do the job.
Disadvantages of solar energy
Cost:
The initial cost of purchasing a solar system is fairly high. This
includes paying for solar panels, inverter, batteries, wiring, and for the
installation.
 Weather Dependent:
Although solar energy can still be collected during cloudy and rainy
days, the efficiency of the solar system drops. Solar panels are
dependent on sunlight to effectively gather solar energy.
 Solar Energy Storage Is Expensive:
Solar energy has to be used right away, or it can be stored in large
batteries. These batteries, used in off-the-grid solar systems, can be
charged during the day so that the energy is used at night.
Benefits of solar energy
 Zero energy production cost.
 Less energy lost during long distance transport.
Versatile installation .
Energy production coincides with the times of
maximum demand .
Impact on the environment.
Improved security of the power grid.
Economic savings .
Economic impact .
Recent trends in solar energy

Solar skin design : One major barrier for the solar

industry is the fact that a high percentage of homeowners
consider solar panels to be an unsightly home addition.
Solar powered roads : Last summer paved the way for
tests of an exciting new PV technology – solar powered
roads. The sidewalks along Route 66, America’s historic
interstate highway, were chosen as the testing location for
solar-powered pavement tech.
Wearable solar : Though wearable solar devices are
nothing new the past few years saw an innovation in solar
textiles: tiny solar panels can now be stitched into the
fabric of clothing.
Conclusion

Solar energy is an immense source of directly useable

energy and ultimately creates other energy resources.
Biomass, wind, hydropower and wave energy. The energy
reduces the cost of electricity and low cost of production.
