ARTICLE 3.0 -GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR WIRING
METHODS AND MATERIALS
• 3.0.1 General Requirements
• 3.0.1.5 Underground Installations.
• (C) Underground Cables and Conductors Under Buildings. Underground cable and conductors installed
under a building shall be in a raceway.
ARTICLE 3.52-RIGID POLYVINYL CHLORIDE CONDUIT:
TYPE PVC
3.52.2.11 Size.
• (A) Minimum. PVC conduit smaller than metric designator 16
(trade size 1/2) shall not be used.
• (B) Maximum. PVC conduit larger than metric designator 155
(trade size 6) shall not be used
3.52.2.1 USES PERMITTED.
The use of PVC conduit shall be
permitted in accordance with 3.52.2.1
(A) through (I).
(D) Wet Locations. PVC conduit shall be
permitted in portions of dairies,
laundries, canneries, or other wet
locations, and in locations where walls
are frequently washed, the entire
conduit system, including boxes and
fittings used therewith, shall be installed
and equipped so as to prevent water
from entering the conduit. All supports,
bolts, straps, screws, and so forth, shall
be of corrosion-resistant materials or be
protected against corrosion by approved
corrosion-resistant materials.
3.92.2.9 CABLE TRAY INSTALLATION
(H) Marking. Cabe trays
containing conductors
rated over 600 volts shall
have a permanent, legible
warning notice carrying
the wording “DANGER –
HIGH VOLTAGE – KEEP
AWAY” placed in a readily
visible position on all cable
trays, with the spacing of
warning notices not
comply with 1.10.1.21 (B).
3.52.2.19 Trimming. All cut ends shall be trimmed inside
and outside to remove rough edges.
3.58.2.19 (A) Reaming. All cut ends of EMT shall be reamed
or otherwise finished to remove rough
edges.
3.0.1.6 PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION AND
DETERIORATION (C) NONMETALLIC EQUIPMENT. (1) EXPOSED
TO SUNLIGHT
• “ Where exposed to sunlight, the materials shall be listed as sunlight resistant or shall be identified as
sunlight resistant.
3.0.2.15 WARNING SIGNS
• Warning signs shall be conspicuously posted at points of access to conductors in all conduit systems and
cable systems. The warning sign(s) shall be legible and permanent and shall carry the following wording:
“DANGER – HIGH VOLTAGE – KEEP OUT”

3.84.3 CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS
(A) MATERIAL. RACEWAYS AND ACCESSORIES SHALL BE
FORMED OF STEEL, STAINLESS STEEL, OR ALUMINUM.

A RUN OF CABLE BETWEEN PULL BOXES OR TERMINATIONS SHALL NOT
CONTAIN MORE THAN THE EQUIVALENT OF FOUR QUARTER BENDS
(360 DEGREES TOTAL) INCLUDING THOSE BENDS LOCATED
IMMEDIATELY AT THE PULL BOX OR TERMINATIONS.
