INTRODUCTION
• The microcontroller based Door locker is an access
control system that allows only authorized persons
to access a restricted area. The system is fully
controlled by the 8 bit microcontroller ATMEGA8
which has a 8Kbytes of programmable flash
memory and 512bytes of EEPROM.

• The system has a Keypad by which the password

can be entered through it. When the entered
password equals with the password stored in the
memory then the gate gets open. If we entered a
wrong password then the Alarm is switched on.

• Motor driver gets the input signals for forward

motion of the motor. As a result, the door motor
rotates in forward direction to open the door.

ATMEGA8 MICROCONTROLLER

•The ATMEGA8 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcomputer with

8KB of self programmable flash program memory and 512bytes EEPROM.

•OPERATING VOLTAGE : 2.7V-5.5V (ATMEGA8L)

•There are 23 I/O lines which can be obtained from three ports ; namely PORT B,
PORT C and PORT D.
ATMEGA8 PIN DIAGRAM
STEPPER MOTOR

• Stepper motors are DC motors that move in discrete steps.

If the password is matched the controller gives input signal to the motor driver. As a
result it rotates in forward direction to open the door.

DIODE
•A diode is a two-terminal electronic
component that conducts electric current in
only one direction.
CAPACITOR
•A capacitor is a passive electronic
component consisting of a pair of conductors
separated by a dielectric (insulator).

TRANSFORMER

•Transformer is an electrical device that transfers

electrical energy between two or more circuits
through electromagnetic induction.
RESET SWITCH
•In electronics, a switch is an
electrical component that can
break an electrical circuit,
interrupting the current or
diverting it from one conductor to
another.

Our keypad is formed by using 16

switches which are used to enter
the password.

LCD
•A 2*16 LCD means it can display 16 characters per line and there are 2 such lines.
•It can operate in either 8 bit mode or 4 bit mode.

We are preferring 8 bit mode for interfacing.

Progress of Project
• Simulation is done in Proteus.
• PCB fabrication and programming is left.
ADVANTAGES:
• This project provides security.
•Power consumption is less.
•Used commonly available components.

DISADVANTAGES:
•If you forget the password, it is not possible to open the door.
•It is not possible to operate the circuit remotely.

APPLICATIONS:
•This simple circuit can be used at residential places to ensure better safety.
•It can be used at organisations to ensure authorised access to highly secured places.
