SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT MODEL


SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT MEANING
 Social means relating to society or its
organization
 DEVELOP+MENT=DEVELOPMENT
* Develop - Meaning to unfold itself or to
grow into fuller or mature condition.
* Ment - an act or process.
Therefore, Social Development refers to the
progressive improvements in the living
conditions and quality of life enjoyed by society
and shared by its members.
DEFINITION OF SOCIAL
DEVELOPMENT
 The Copenhagen Social Summit, 1995 defined
Social Development in terms of three basic
criteria:

*Poverty Eradication
*Employment Generation
*Social Harmony
GOALS OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
 To create a society where living conditions of the
people are better. They do not suffer from hunger
and they are not denied the basic necessities of
life.
 To remove regional imbalance and rural-urban
disparities.
 To create infrastructure where basic need of the
people are met at all levels, including those who
constitute the poorest and deprived sections of
society.
VALUES OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
 Social development movement emphasize respect
for the unity of life on earth
 The minimization of violence

 The satisfaction of basic human needs

 The primacy of human dignity

 The need for universal participation in the


process of attaining worldwide social
transformation .
 These values, of course, are also central to social
work practice and provide critical direction to the
profession's activities in social development
PRINCIPLE OF SOCIAL
DEVELOPMENT RELATED TO SW
 The principles of social development are related
to social work in that what they seek to achieve
with social development is also what social work
seeks to achieve, namely the concern with
improving human well-being. In improving
human well-being, both social development and
social work recognise the need to make human
rights accessible to all in the interest of equity
and social justice. Thus, they both seek to
empower the people
