Abstract
This descriptive-analytical study was
conducted on 24 students of Polytechnic University
of the Philippines under the academic strand
Accountancy and Business Management. The
researcher used dormitory students as respondents to
have a concrete findings about the effectiveness
implementation of budgeting practices. The findings
indicated by the grade 11 ABM dormitory students
of Polytechnic University of the Philippines shows
that budgeting practices such as prioritizing
important rather than wasting it for unnecessary
things as well as allocating budget for their daily
expenses and save its excess were effectively
implemented.

Introduction

Allowance is the amount of money given


or allotted usually at a regular intervals
for a specific purpose. A student boarder is an
individual who rent a room in someone’s house, who
also lives and studies away from home. One
fundamental things that a student boarders should
possess is the efficiency on budgeting their allowance.
Background of the Study

Dormitory students have their own way on


managing their allowances, like ensuring
savings. Some of these savings are for
emergency purpose and for personal behalf.
So the researchers' conduct this study
focuses on how dormitory students manage
their own allowances effectively.
Theoretical Framework
“A line-item budget is simply the allocation of
resources according to the cost of each object of
expenditure” (Henry, n.d.)
The purpose of this form of budgeting is to assess
the costs or expenditures being consumed and to
see the expected asset or remaining cash that is
not consumed will be serve as savings
Another theory of budgeting (Carnes, 2017)
includes costing, planning, controlling and
knowing the problems or struggles that can be
seen on the action of the budgeting or also called
in this theory as pitfalls.

Scope and Limitation
This study is focused solely on the
effectiveness of ABM students’ budgeting
management.
The researchers' used survey as research
method.
Questionnaire was used as the research
instrument.
The study are limited to the Grade 11 ABM
dormitory students.
The study will be conducted at the Main
Building of Polytechnic University of the
Philippines.

Personal financial planning is the process of


managing your money to achieve personal economic
satisfaction (Kapoor, 2016). There are three types of
financial goals: the short- term goals, intermediate
goals and long- term goals. It is the easier to sucess
in personal finacial planning when it is aligned with
the students' overall values and personal goals.

It varies according to age, gender, personality


traits, needs and knowledge of the person. Managing
finaces is a sign of maturity and independency.
Managing your cash properly can generate a btter
preparations on everything that may happen in the
future (Gitman, L., et. al., 2014)

Effective Implementation of Budgeting Practice

• “Buy things you only need, don’t waste


money on things you don’t really need,”
(some dormitory students).

• “Through an accounting process” (some


dormitory students).

• “Allocating budget for everyday expenses


then saving the rest” (some dormitory
students).

Summary of Findings

• The respondents of the study was exerted from


the population of Grade 11 ABM students
consists of 15 years old (4.17 %), 16 years old
(58.33 %), 17 years old (37.50 %) where 9 out
of 24 males and 15 out of females participated
in answering the questionnaires

• Most of the respondents, 23 out of 24,


allowance is from their parents. 2 out of the 23
also relay their allowance on their personal
savings, while 1 out of 23 was also supported
by a sponsor. The remaining respondent was
known to be supported by his/her siblings.

• There are 33.33% of the total respondents
whose monthly allowances favored between
Php 2,500-Php 4,999 and Php 5,000-Php
7,499.
• 29.17% whose monthly allowances is more
than Php 7,500
• 4.17% whose allowances that is less than
Php 2,499.

• Most of the respondents, 16 out of 24
dormitory students, are known to save less
than P1000.00.
• 4 out of 24 students’ monthly savings ranges
from P1, 501.00 to P 2000.00.
• 3 out of 24 respondents have more than
P2000.00 monthly savings.
• 1 out of 24 usually saves P1000.00- P
1,500.00.

Conclusion

The findings indicated by the grade 11


ABM dormitory students of Polytechnic
University of the Philippines shows that
budgeting practices were effectively
implemented such as
• Prioritizing important rather than wasting it
for unnecessary things
• Allocating budget for their daily expenses
and save its excess
Conclusion

Therefore, there is significant difference


in the effectiveness of Grade 11 ABM
dormitory students of Polytechnic University
of the Philippines in managing their monthly
allowance.
Recommendation

Dormitory Students

• Prioritize what is needed.


• Avoid wasting their money on things
they don't necessarily needed.
• Know their discipline and responsible
in using their own allowances.
• Make an accounting process.

Future Research

• Focus on either different respondents or


on changing the University.
• Change the main aims of their study.
• Explore on different factors that may
affect the ways on managing dormitory
students' monthly allowances.
• Consider the different characteristics or
traits of a dormitory students on how
they take budgeting seriously.
