Report Generator and

Report Builder
Report Builder :
lets administrators create and manage Teamcenter report
definitions. Once administrators create the report definitions, users
can generate reports from
Report definition types:
Summary reports
Summary reports are generated from Teamcenter saved queries.
Item reports
Item reports are run on an individual object, such as an item
revision. Each item report definition is associated with a Teamcenter
class and transfer mode object.
Custom reports
Custom reports address special cases such as complex processing or
calculations done through custom code, or when data comes from
external sources.
A report definition consists:
•A unique report ID that can be assigned automatically by the
system
• A report name and description
• A query source specification (either saved query or transfer
mode)
• A property set object to define the report data
• A style sheet dataset to reformat the report data for output
• A particular class in the Teamcenter data model (needed for
item reports only)
• A PLM XML transfer mode
Report Builder terms
• A saved query object allows end users to search for Teamcenter data model
objects using search criteria.
• A class is the definition of an object implemented in the Teamcenter data
model. Each class has associated attributes and behavior that controls both
the actions that may be performed on it and what other data it can be
related to. Teamcenter manages data by grouping similar types of data into
classes.
• A transfer mode object combines closure rules and property sets to define
the context of the PLM XML import or export operation. These objects are
presented as context options when you import or export objects or system
data using Teamcenter applications
Conti....
•A property set allows you to have user defined data for data exchange.

•A style sheet defines and controls the report display.

•Basic tasks using Report Builder

•Lets administrators create report definitions choosing File→Create
Reports.
•lets administrators create the property sets used in reports by
choosing File→Create Property Set
Once the report definitions are created, end users can generate reports

function buttons in Report Generator . If you
select the Report Generator symbol from the
navigation pane without first selecting an object
from Manufacturing Structure Editor , Part

Basic concepts about Report Builder…
• Report Builder lets administrators create and manage Teamcenter
report definitions. Once administrators create the report
definitions, users can generate reports from My Teamcenter or the
thin client.

• Report definition types-

Report Builder create three different kinds of reports:

1. Summary reports.
2. Item reports.
3. Custom reports.
• Summary reports :-

• Summary reports are generated from Teamcenter

saved queries. When you select a summary report
from a list of available summary reports, you are
prompted to input query criteria. You can leave
default values or enter new values. If default values
are not provided, you are prompted to type the
values when you generate a report.
• Item reports:-

• Item reports are run on an individual object, such as

an item revision. Each item report definition is
associated with a Teamcenter class and transfer
mode object. Transfer mode objects are created in
the PLM XML Export Import Administration
application.
• Custom reports:-

• Custom reports address special cases such as

complex processing or calculations done through
custom code, or when data comes from external
sources. Each custom report object is associated
with a custom program. When a custom report is
selected from a list, the server launches them
program and the custom process.
Report definition structure…
A report definition consists of the following elements:

• A unique report ID that can be assigned automatically by the system.

• A report name and description.

• A query source specification (either saved query or transfer mode).

• A property set object to define the report data.

• A style sheet dataset to reformat the report data for output.

• A PLM XML Transfer mode.

Importing and exporting report definitions :-
• The import_export_reports utility allows report definitions and their
associated style sheets to be exported from one Teamcenter server and
imported to another.

• Export a report definition

• To export a report definition from a Teamcenter server, run the
following command on the command line:

Import_export_reports –export
-u=username -p=password –g=group –stageDir=data-directory -
reportId=report-name
• This command exports report definitions and associated data (style
sheets) to the directory specified by the stageDir argument. You
must specify the full path with the stageDir argument, and the
directory must exist before running the utility.
• Import a report definition

• To import a report definition from a Teamcenter server, run the

following command on the command line:

Import_export_reports –import
-u=username -p=password –g=group –stageDir=data-directory -
reportId=report-name
• When you import a report definition, the stageDir argument
specifies the path, and the reportId argument specifies the directory
name where the report resides.
