AUTOMATED
PROTOTYPE PAPER
BRIQUETTE MACHINE
Fabrication of an Automated Prototype
Paper Briquette Machine

An improved version of paper briquette

machine that utilizes an electro-
hydraulic system with electronic
controllers. This will lessen human efforts
and produce consistent product.
Fabrication of an Automated Prototype
Paper Briquette Machine

The proposed briquetting machine was

conceived as a means of recycling
paper waste, which according to the
study of Martinez, Trigue, and Pretta
(2014), constitutes the biggest
percentage of solid waste collected in
the campus.

The said project is also in relation to

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY being
one of the main components of the
IEMP, with the main goal of developing
technology that could help sustain the
institution’s environmental objectives.
Fabrication of an Automated Prototype
Paper Briquette Machine

This briquetting machine was designed

to recycle and reuse paper waste by
converting it into fuel, thereby gradually
addressing the issue of paper waste in
the campus and the problem of cutting
down trees for charcoal.

Specific Objectives
1. Design and fabricate an automated
paper briquette machine.

2. Develop various controlled parameters in

order to obtain a higher specific density of
the paper briquette at constant holding
time of compression.

3. Determine the produced briquettes

specific density based on the developed
parameters.
Design Criteria For an Automated
Briquette Machine
1. The briquette machine will be able to
produce a paper briquette with a specific
gravity between 0.20 to 0.60.
2. It can be manually or automatically
operated by a single operator. It is
designed to be user-friendly and safe to
operate.

3. The machine power supply requirement is

2.25 KW (2,250 W), 220 Vac, 60 Hz, single
phase. It is equipped with an electrical
protection and safety meshwire for
rotational mechanism.

Strokes
Findings
By varying the number of strokes while
maintaining a constant pressure of 40 kg/cm2, the
produced paper briquettes obtained the following
average specific gravity: 0.35 at 3 strokes, 0.37 at 4
strokes, 0.40 at 5 strokes and 0.42 at 6 strokes.

By varying the value of pressure while

maintaining a constant number of 6 strokes, the
produced paper briquette obtained the following
average specific gravity: 0.39 at 30 Kg/cm2, 0.42 at
32 Kg/cm2, 0.45 at 35 Kg/cm2, 0.53 at 40 Kg/cm2.
CONCLUSION
In the construction of this briquette
machine, the use of pressure sensors,
controllers, actuators and automation has
the advantage of controling the parameter
to vary the pressures and strokes. The
advantage of these machine features leads
us to achieve the expected specific gravity
of the product within 0.2-0.6.
