A Study On

Instagram: New Self Expression

Purpose

 This research examines the social networking site Instagram as a


means/medium of displaying new self-expression among diverse users.
 Users express non-verbal captions using emoticons, add filters to alter
photographs, add hashtags to group together categories, and frames to
put together a digital storyline.
 As self-expression is also a form of non-verbal communication for instance
Branding per say; studying its inter-relationship can be of greater help to
even brand managers to use such a specific SNS to nourish consumer-
brand relationships.

 A self-administered communication approach was followed by designing an electronic


questionnaire
 The same was administered through WhatsApp medium (using mobile phones &
laptops) across different WhatsApp groups.
 In person interview, here was not a perfect measure because if we had chosen one
individual from each different background, his/her perception could have been
different from the population of his/her background.
 A telephonic interview approach was not followed because of these reasons: - 1)
Lower response rate 2) Higher costs if interviewing geographically dispersed sample 3)
limited interview length 4) Unlisted phone numbers & 5) Unavailable contacts.
