• awareness of the existence of other
• awareness of the self as being seen by
others
14
Intersubjectivity

Recognizing the self into other

- we are able to relate meaningfully with
other human beings because we consider
ourselves as essentially the same
15

The way we act with other people

is often influenced by our ideas of
how this people see us.
16
Intersubjectivity

Seeming
- how an individual presents him/herself in
a certain way when dealing with others
- unconscious or natural part of humans
17
Intersubjectivity

However, there are instances that

people behave a certain way to
intentionally decieve or manipulate
other people

through a dialogue, a
philosophical theory that showed
a particular quality of interaction,
where the parties involved

21
What characterizes
a genuine human
interaction?
Dialogue
- an interaction between person through
speech or the use of words, expressions
and body language
- it occurs when 2 persons open up to
each other and give and recieve one
another in their encounter
23
Dialogue

Whenever a person speaks, he/she

expresses a personal interiority and
communicates this part of him/herself
24
to another person
The awareness of each other’s
presence as a true person is defined
by the acceptance of each others
uniqueness and differences
25
How does
intersubjectivity define
our interactions with
other persons?
The human person is considered as
"being with others", which means that
his or her identity and destiny are shaped
by relating with others
27
Empathy

- The feeling that you understand and

share another person’s experiences
and emotions

Ethics of care

relationship and interactions

to respond to the needs of others
- encourages individuals to help other
32 people, especially the vulnerable
Not all human interactions are positive

• The pessimistic view considers human

relationships frustrating and often deceptive
• A person that adopts this negative view is
said to be experiencing alienation

33
Example of person experiencing alienation

You might have encountered people who

behave in a rude and offensive manner
against other whom they consider different
from them.
34
Society must be founded on
relationships established through
mutual respect and recognition of
human dignity.
35
If we recognized that others is the same
as ourselves, consider them as an
individual with dignity, then we will be
able to forge ties and build a community
36
of harmony
How can Philosophy
can help you to
evaluate your
relationships with
others?
Acceptance of differences and embracing
diversity

- Each person is unique

- We have to accept that people will have

different views and beliefs.
- What unites us all is our shared
38 humanity and dignity
The recognition of our shared dignity
and humanity is what drives us to act
with concern towards others
(especially those who experiences
hardships and discrimination)
39
For instance, those person with disabilities
that experiences hardships because of their
condition

We have to realize that these individuals

despite their limitations can have the same
skills as those who are fully abled.
They also have hopes and aspirations
40
Examples of PWD
who lives
productively despite
of their physical
limitations
