Asoka's Dhamma, Asoka's personal religion was


Buddhism. He created an ethical code which was the
essence of all religions and propagated it as 'Dhamma'.
The Dhamma consisted of such principles as
respecting and obeying one's elders and teachers,
treating the young with affection, maintaining good
relations with neighbors, treating animals kindly,
tolerating others' religions, adhering to truth, practicing
charity, simplicity and piety, and leading a virtuous life.

Social Class
Most prominent leader of mauryan Empire, who
was also the most influential, was Ashoka. At the
beginning of his reign he was in the process of
expanding the empire. As a result, the Muaryan's
faced off with the Kalingaians. Ashoka, after
seeing the destruction this battle brought, he
turned into a Buddhist. This influenced the social
structure of the Mauryan by making all of the
people equal. The Buddhist belief of bettering
yourself and treating all others equally and fairly,
broke the caste system.

Southeast Asia. Export items included silk
goods and textiles, spices and exotic foods.
