    Cloud computing is based on the idea of utility computing and delivering hosted services like SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS over the internet. It has characteristics of scalability, multi-tenancy, elasticity, self-service, and ubiquitous access. The cloud provides benefits like cost reduction, increased storage, automation, and flexibility. However, challenges include security, lack of understanding, and latency issues as data-heavy applications are deployed. While still emerging, cloud computing could transform how organizations access computing resources and services.

    Ubiquitous Access.
    Virtualization.
    Layers of the Cloud

    Software as a Service (SaaS)


    Applications Hosted on the
    web
    Platform as a Service (PaaS)
    Facilitates developing applications for the
    cloud
    Infrastructure as a Service
    (IaaS)
    Contains all of the physical and virtual
    resources
    computing

    Cost Reduction.
    Cloud computing utilizes a pay as you go model.
    Increased Storage.
    More data could be stored in the cloud than on
    any Organizations privet data center .
    Highly Automated.
    Software is updated Automatically.
    Flexibility.
    Cloud computing is much more flexible than
    other computing methods ( Grid computing ).
    Some Challenges
    Security
    •
    Applications Do not inherit security from the cloud,
    they must be secured Independently.

    lack of understanding
    •
    This problem faces any new technology,
    misunderstanding the technology and its limitations.

    Latency
    •
    The decrees in data transfer speeds(responsiveness)
    due to the increase in data heavy applications running
    on the cloud, will be the most challenging problem.
    Conclusion

    Cloud Computing is still in it’s infancy.
