Usually refers to the analysis of larger meaning-

bearing parts of words such as root words, suffixes,


prefixes, word endings, apostrophe (for possession),
compound words, and contractions.

It may include syllabication, since dividing of


words into syllables often deals with prefixes and
suffixes that carry meaning.
When using structural analysis, the reader breaks words down into
their basic parts:

1. PREFEXIS -are word parts that are attached at


the beginning of a base or root word.
2. ROOTS - are base words to which other word
parts are added. Each root word has a
specific meaning.
The words and the service words are joined to form
phrases and sentences. Use pictures and actual
situations or actions to develop meaning.

Phrases - Is a group of words that go together, but


do not make a complete sentence. They don’t
have complete thoughts.

SENTENCES
A group of words that makes complete
sense or they express complete
thoughts.
