PROJECT

• The design proposal for the permanent campus of THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, PALAKKAD is proposed.
• The campus shall be of a high value as it would cater the few of the best students for the bachelors, masters and the
doctoral programs in the vivid fields of engineering.
• Exploring with the various architectural realms of vernacular architecture of kerala along with the incorporation of the
contemporary architectural elements and the passive means of ventilation.
• This project is proposed by the central Government of India, and is one of the 23 IIT colleges in India.
• The client to this project would be the government but would cater the students and the staff of the institute; academic
as well as residential facilities are to be provided.
• Designing and working upon a project of high intellect and value would emphasis the knowledge and research about
the site as well as the user group and the uniqueness of the IITs.
• The approximate built up area of the project shall be 3,00,000 sqm.
PEOPLE
• The user group for this project is the students, teachers and the non-teaching staff for the academics, administrations and the residential buildings.
• The idea is to provide an iconic building for IIT Palakkad keeping in mind the dignity of the institute and the caliber of the users.
• Being an architect to the project, the purpose of the institute catering almost 1500 students and the teaching and the non teaching staff should be
solved by providing spaces such as to make the building more comfortable.
• Referring to the other 22 IITs in India, the design considerations and the needs/ priorities would be decided.
PURPOSE
• The Purpose of selection of the project is to explore with the architectural forms for designing a campus and fulfilling its needs.
• The idea is to design the campus in the hot and humid region of Kerala, with considerations to the environmental aspects and aiming towards
achievement of a sustainable building with the maximized use of the passive means of architecture along with the vernacular architecture and the
architectural style.
PROCESS
• The Process to this project would be EXPLORING THE CONTEMPORARY ELEMENTS IN THE VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE of Hot & Humid Climate.
• The connectivity spaces between the buildings and the circulation spaces are to be worked out wisely with the architectural elements.
PLACE
• The Place for the project is pre-defined.
• The place is proposed at the UNESCO Heritage site at Puduserry Village, Palakkad, Kerala.
• The site is located in a hot & Humid climatic zone.
• Passive techniques of architecture would be emphasized to lead the campus towards sustainability.
