1.
What does the boy feel toward
Crow?
The boy acknowledges the crow’s opinion. The
crow is someone special to the boy. It can be seen in
the line, “As always, we’re sitting beside each other
on the old sofa in my father’s study.” By this, we
can conclude that they have a special bond and
they often hangout with each other, especially
when the boy’s father is not around. He is
comfortable with Crow and he trusts him – as seen
in “I do as he says, get everything else out of my
head.”

Crow made the boy realize what the real
world is like when he ran away. He
pointed out that he’s only 15 years old
and it seems impossible for him to live
without the support of his father.
However, he is eager to become
independent, thus, he disregarded the
“what if’s” that Crow made him see.

What does the sandstorm
represent?
In the first part of the story, the sandstorm
represented the inner struggles and confusions of
the lead character, the boy. This was shown in the
line “This storm is you. Something inside you.”
However, the latter part of the story represented
the sandstorm as the trials and obstacles each and
everyone of us is facing. This will inevitably come
to us which may hurt us but will change us – for
the better or worse.

3.
Why does the boy want to run
away? Do you think it was the
right decision (for him to run
away)?
The boy wanted to run away as he wanted to
distance himself from his father. He wanted to be
able to make a living on his own without needing
the support of his father. This may imply that the
boy did not have a good relationship with his
father. It may not be the best decision that the boy
has made as he will face several challenges along
the way to strive for independence.

4.
Do you agree with the narrator’s
view about fate? Why or why not?
We strongly agree with the narrator’s viewpoint
about fate. We believe that destiny is not fixed and
that the future is the result of the decisions we
make at present. It is not enough reason to blame
destiny about our current situation. If we want to
succeed in life, we must start striving today
because no one else is accountable for our fate but
ourselves.
