A stressor is a chemical or biological

agent, environmental condition, external


stimulus or an events that causes stress to
an organism. Psychologically speaking, a
stressor can be events or environmental
that an individual would consider
demanding. Challenging, and or threaten
the individual’s safety.
Stress is your body’s reaction to the demands of the
world. Stressor are events or conditions in your
surrounding that may trigger stress. Your body
respond to stressor differently depending on whether
the stressor is new or short term - acute stress – or
whether stressor has been around for a longer time –
chronic stress
KINDS OF STRESSOR:
Chronic Stressor: These are long – term stressful situation that have no resolution in sight.
Example: Constant deadlines, overcrowded working conditions

Acute stressor: These are short – term stressful situations


that will soon be resolved.
Example: Car runs out of gas; short term illness

Not knowing stressors: These stressors are due to not knowing the who, what, when, where, or how of a situation.
Example: Traveling in unfamiliar city, Being new on the job or project.

Personal or Non – Personal stressors: These stressors are caused by things that cannot be controlled.
Example: Being stuck in snowstorm.

Trigger Stressors: These are reminders of past stress that produce a renewed stress response.
Example: Watching a construction worker on a tall building reminds you of your fear of heights.

Daily Hassles: Those minor annoyances that happen daily can add to your problem until it become a big part of your
stress load.
Example: Concern about your health, weight, or fitness, money, being lonely.
Common Pressure That can Cause Stress in Teens:
School and social pressure – whether it’s keeping up grades, applying to collage, or deciding what to do after
graduation, school related stress I real. Homework and heavy academic load can often compete with
extracurricular activities, social events and sport obligations.

Family Challenges - although it may not be easy to talk about it openly, teens can also face worries at home.
Family conflict divorce, illness and financial problems can all cause stress. Parents can also add to stress, as
they may added pressure or expectation on their teens.

Body Image Issue - there’s no getting around it. Teens go through many physical change. These change are
usually hard to hide, and it’s easy to compare yourself to friends and pees who are going through these change
too.

Friendship – at times it feels like peers are the center of teen’s world. It’s easy to feel stressed about the right”
way to respond to friends needs. While it’s important to learn how to support others, it can be hard to set
boundaries on how their hardship affect our own lives.
